We're slap bang in the middle of the South West red weather warning. Snowing heavily with strong wind and meant to continue for the next 36 hours.

Been down here for twelve years and never seen snow settle on the beach before (although few miles inland up on Exmoor they often get snowed in, so goodness know what it will be like up there this time round).
We have about 5 inches on Dartmoor so far (10 if wife is counting )...

I know us Brits get a bit dizzy and over dramatise when it snows. But this is something isn’t it?
It's a cold snap.

A barely visible snowplough and a tractor try rather in vain to keep the A140 clear (main road from Ipswich to Norwich). It's been closed all day but as soon as they clear it, it blocks again. The field had 20cm of snow on it yesterday but the wind has stripped it.

It's starting to look bad here now.

Not 1982 bad though

Nowhere near as bad as the December snow was, yet, over here in Shropshire, but enough this afternoon for a slippy slow drive home from work. That wind is something else though and the temperatures colder than I can remember for a long while. From the office window it appeared to be snowing upwards and sidewards for most of the day!

Time you enjoyed wasting was not wasted
I had to turn into work this morning, at 9.00 am, and after watching the unfolding snowpocalypse on the news, and looking at the BBC weather site's forecast of 40 mph gales and a temperature that feels like -11 C, I decided to layer up a bit and go on my mountain bike, only 3 miles today. I put 7 layers on and set off to find the wind was a bit of a pussy cat (it was harsher yesterday) and I was warm as toast. Work was cut short due to the snow so had an early dart about 11.00 am and decided to go for a ride of about 10 miles along a local trail through the pine woods. The wind was quite strong, but nothing like forecast and it was quite exhilarating being out in it all, although the snow and ice required a bit more care than usual.

Got home and after Mrs. Rh declared me insane for going out cycling as the world was ending, I soon got cold and wondered why, then I realised I had changed and now only had 2 layers on....duh!! I do think the wind got stronger later though, and more brutal too. We seem to have got off quite lightly near the coast on Merseyside compared with most of the country, but still looking forward to it getting nicer in the next few days.

Lucky cyclist in York today, tweet by City of York Council above a gif of Superman

Not all heroes wear capes...A big thanks to @Transdev 42 bus who rescued a cyclist during today's 'white out' on Naburn Lane. The roads were ok, but the weather meant significantly less visibility. The bus driver gave both cyclist and bike a lift into the city for free.

Maybe 6 or 7 years ago I was working in the Fens and the temps were minus 8 to 10 for about a week, so cold I was taking food for some feral cats near our factory.
Today, Alconbury, it's around minus 3 to minus 4, then the wind chill. Jesus, I walked round the yard and once into the wind, the skin on my face actually stung and hurt with the cold within a minute or two.
Layering. One t shirt, two jumpers, a padded work bomber style jacket and a padded work below the hip length jacket on top of that. I've been toastie warm but Jeez, that wind on my face.

Reports of frozen pipes coming in. An old friend of ours mentioned on FB her pipes were frozen, now my daughter's rang, she's in the same position.
Warned her to turn the stop cock off and be ready for the thaw...then the water may flow ...where she doesn' want it.
