Roads are all blocked here and it’s blowing a hooley. Bitterly cold too. I declare a non-bike riding day in Horncastle 7D9871FE-7500-4915-8670-07DAF27A35E4.jpeg

On a kind of related wintry note, anyone here who has used Calor and switched to another bulk gas supplier that's been better?

We've got a huge tank and for years, used to simply order when the tank was at 20%. Three years ago, Calor fitted a dialler gadget that phones in tank levels. They then deliver when the tank is nearly empty and for two years out of three, that has coincided with cold weather, when their delivery system falls apart. We then get only vague promises and no delivery date, leaving us worrying about gas running out. In the other year, when we requested a delivery, they actually refused it as at 10% our tank wasn't empty enough. In the intervening two weeks, the lpg price went up and when they did deliver, it cost us £50 more!

Basically, their whole delivery system is pants and don't even get me started on the monthly payment amounts, which is a bizarre world of unprompted refunds and later demands over underpayment. I'd change to oil except that we've got a boiler with lots of life left in it yet.

It’s fine here in London. May as well close the thread now.

Traction is ok in a 4x4 but braking is still an issue unless you have winter tyres. Combine the both and it's great fun!

The issue isn't your 4x4 getting stuck, it's the dozy beggar in a fwd hatch who crawls down hill and acts all surprised and stuck when a boot-full of revs in 1st gear results in it stopping on the up hill following. Once enough of these are stopped not even a tracked vehicle will get you up the road, but at least with tracks you could cut across country.

No problems getting into work for me. All the roads on the commute are gritted & they were quiet. I allowed half an hour extra to get in & made it in pretty much the usual time. The snow is settling here though, so return leg might be worse. I remembered the advice I read on riding in snow: Brake. Steer. Throttle. Pick one.
