Are we being forced to go electric?

How far are these people commuting in ? I'd have thought a morning or afternoon charging at 7kW should replace what they used that morning to get to work ? So in effect you have 20 chargers. Otherwise they're just taking the pee and hoarding electric.
Some are doing 100 mile round trips with lots of travel to London, Scotland etc. A 7kw takes ages to fill an empty battery i thought?

My employer is involved in a major hydrogen partnership. Mainly for industrial applications, but the sticking point at the moment is its incredibly expensive to make (with electric) and the electrolysis equipment uses rare metals also. We are years away from it going in cars.

Also because hydrogen likes to form very strong molecular bonds it was always take a lot more energy to break these than it'll ever make when used as a fuel. There will be a few niche products where electricity can't or wont be supplied at all but it cannot ever be expected to replace petrochemical fuels.
Think of hydrogen is a very expensive and inefficient battery and not as a fuel or energy source.

JCB's soon to enter production hydrogen engine performs almost identically to its diesel.

It is a low revving 'tractor' engine, so would be horrible to drive in a car, but Toyota/Yamaha are developing a V8 hydrogen engine aimed at all the Americans who love their petrol V8s.

Let's just hope someone provides somewhere to buy hydrogen rather than shutting them down...
