Are we being forced to go electric?

But what about the cost of all the cups of coffee you'll be buying at motorway services while you wait for your EV to charge - or wait for a charger to become available? ^_^

One my recent trip to Durham, it was a 370 mile round trip. I stopped once to recharge, bought a cup of coffee at the same time. I had my meeting and found a small cafe and had lunch with a cup of tea. I would have paid for those any how, there not additional above normal use. I didnt emit any hydrocarbons on the journey, so I saved massively.

Anybody who reckons they can do that journey without any stops is reckless and dangerous- we all need to to a rest break when driving 2+hours

btw I get free supercharging for life of the car, so are always ahead re coffee costs ^_^

I am ! Cycle to work all the time, my car did less than 3k miles last year, and it's been in my ownership over 20 years. Saving the planet bit by bit. A new EV would be a waste of money to me !

True, doing very little miles warrants getting a new/er car. But if a person was in the market for a car then EV is the way to go.

can you work out how long it would be to offset say the cost of a £15k new car doing around 4000 miles a year against the cost of an e car , i will plump for a e corsa at £34k as an example .
My brain hurts with the math

If you're doing so little miles and will continue to do so, then its hardly worth changing, apart from emissions. Is it really £34k for a Corsa-E, wow. I would've expected mid twenties

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...

- but can purchasers today get free supercharging for life? If not may I suggest it's irrelevant to discussion of EV running costs?

Literally I charge away from home about 4 times a year.
Never had to wait for a charger in almost three years of having the car.
I think my coffee bill is affordable 😊

It is.

The petrol models range from £19K to £28.5K, the electric ones from £34K to £37K, all list prices.

Even 'city' cars are pricey for what you actually get

Yup. But prices will fall.

I've just started looking at a potential vehicle for the oldest daughter as she is dropping hints now that she is nearing her 17th birthday.
I can get a second hand Fiat 500 for <£100 a month. The few eFiat's I have found are *considerably* more expensive...

Much cheaper to buy her a bicycle (even an electric one), not to mention the astronomical costs of motor insurance for new, young drivers, added benefit of one less car on already crowded Surrey/London roads

Yes, then she can get suspended or expelled from school which specifically prohibits cycling to school for pupils, or be run down on the very busy, narrow 40mph road that leads up to it, and which almost all local cyclists avoid.

Obviously she doesn't need a car at all, but a large proportion of her friends will be getting them, so it then becomes peer pressure as well.

Genius.
Seriously??? What school is that? How does she get to school now?
If that’s their policy, why don’t they provide free transport (guessing it’s a private school)

At 17, presumably she’ll be leaving soon anyhow.

I take her in the EV (which she cannot be insured on - it's a company car).

It's a Private School. No such thing as free transport.

She has two years of A-Levels, and as I mentioned - peer pressure is also in play. I'd prefer not to have another car cluttering up the driveway, but young women need their freedom <sigh>

The Porsche is last in both runs. It;s very close between the Tesla and the Ferarri on the first run, but on the second, the acceleration on the Tesla is phenomenal. The Ferrari starts to catch up at faster speeds. This is two pure sports cars against a large luxury sized saloon car with all mod cons.

Here's the vid:-

Thanks for the heads up  ! That’s not of any interest whatsoever !
