Are we being forced to go electric?

I read that Tesla have cancelled all UK orders for RHD cars and will no longer be producing them - wise move?

Only for two models. You can still get the 3 and the Y in RHD and those are the more popular versions.
I can see why you'd not swap stuff around for fairly small production runs.

Again, in a cost of living crisis for some , that’s a minority view I’d say ! Funny enough I live in part of the UK that has a lot of renewables energy , it seems I’m paying a lot more for that by default !

If people don't change their ways there will be more than a cost of living crisis in the future...

You misread.

It is only two models, and they are old models which are no longer selling well. Those models will probably stop being produced entirely within a year or two.

If they were to cancel all RHD models, it would be a blindingly stupid move, not a wise one, given the proportion of the world which drives on the left.

Only model S and X. Will be LHD. Not a problem if you've ever driven LHD.I have driven LHD for 13 years The model 3 and Y which outsell all other brands are still RHD.

Of course it is a problem. You may be able to manage driving LHD in the UK, but you simply don't have good enough sight lines to be able to do it as well as if it were RHD.

Overtaking on single carriageway roads can be very tricky indeed.

You are correct, overtaking can be more awkward, (its not a regular activity) takes more planning, laying back to open visibility splay.

It has benefits of seeing the kerb better, cyclists, allowing more space, also parking can also be a little easier to negotiate. You exit the car on the kerb side.

If a person really wanted a particular car and it was only LHD, then understanding the limitations shouldn't prevent purchase.

Fortunately I own a RHD model S, probably wont change it, as its my weekend car, with low mileage, full FSD and lifetime free supercharging.

Where are we with synthetic fuel ? I’ve heard it’s about twice the price per litre as normal fuel ? So not viable right now .

Pretty much nowhere, it is a Porsche driven project to save their ICE models. They have a site in Chile I believe (one of the windiest sites on the planet). They produce a few hundred thousand litres per year. It was assessed that literally tens of thousands of similar sites would need to be constructed, just to meet the demand of the USA, which uses currently millions of litres per day.

Its a niche product to help German car makers continue to produce ICE vehicles.

Its not really going to stop the EV revolution. BMW best selling sport car is a full EV, Porsche with their Taycan is no 5 just behind the 911. SUVs are their biggest seller. They dare not make an EV SUV, it would crush their ICE.

Market forces will force the extinction of ICE not manufacturers.
