Well a new Petrol Corsa starts at £19K, not £15K. And it has a claimed mpg of 51 (combined) for that model.

So you are saving £127 per 1000 miles, just over £500 per year if you are only doing 4K miles per year. Which means 30 years to save the £15K price difference on fuel costs alone.

That’s just horrible , hopefully costs will come down . The price difference on new is stupid . A nice hybrid petrol maybe a stop gap for me .

Yes, then she can get suspended or expelled from school which specifically prohibits cycling to school for pupils, or be run down on the very busy, narrow 40mph road that leads up to it, and which almost all local cyclists avoid.

Obviously she doesn't need a car at all, but a large proportion of her friends will be getting them, so it then becomes peer pressure as well.

Blooming outrageous school rule there. Cycling to school is what got me hooked.

How many people are bothered about drag races though?
Maybe it's just me but dazzling acceleration doesn't bother me a jot.
Same with top speeds. So what ?

I was just thinking similar whilst catching up with this thread - just what the planet and other road users need, performance obsessed drivers in 1000 hp cars.

Doesn't impress me in the slightest tbh.

I really think that we should bring in rules about efficiency for cars. Like the EU did with electrical devices and slashed the power drain of appliances.

Talking of new/young drivers, be interesting to know what the insurance costs are like for an EV with much faster 0-60 acceleration than the typical cars new drivers have (eg a 1.0l city car)? Replacement Value of the car aside

Absolutely horrendous the costs will be. It's all the tech that sits in things like bumpers and wing mirrors and, of course damage to a battery. Nothing will be as cheap as a 'sh1t box' C1/Aygo - they are about the lowest and don't have all the 'driver aids', mainly as the cars are cheap to fix.

If you're doing so little miles and will continue to do so, then its hardly worth changing, apart from emissions. Is it really £34k for a Corsa-E, wow. I would've expected mid twenties

I'm interested in the VW I.D.2 once it comes out in a couple of years.
Supposed to be around 20k, not sure how that's possible if a Corsa is that expensive?

No chance the ID2 will be £20k seeing the price of the rest of the range - if it is then great. I fancy an Ami with stabilisers though !

As long as I breathe, I attack.
reading up you can get an mg4 for around £26k, and a base e corsa for £30k, Nissan leaf falls between the two .
I merely picked the corsa as Ms ck has always been partial to the brand so it was just the 1st thing came to mind .
Like some i cycle commute so out car is the school run / shopping trip jobbie with the occasional long trip

Not that outrageous - it's due to the two dangerous roads that pupils would have to use to get there. There are loads of safe private roads but they are all owned by the Burwood estate, home to multi millionaire footballers and pop stars and as such, closed to cyclists. Even the ancient rights of way have been closed off.

I am ! Cycle to work all the time, my car did less than 3k miles last year, and it's been in my ownership over 20 years. Saving the planet bit by bit. A new EV would be a waste of money to me !

Nice one. It often comes as a pleasant surprise to find someone walking the walk on here .
