The quote was specifically EVs , was a discussion on Five Live through the week irc . Interesting Tesla are cutting prices even more , need to sell more cars ! Tells its own story !
Why do we have to have EV plates in the first place ? Genuine question btw ?
Probably for areas where ICE vehicles are prohibited.
To encourage others by seeing more of the green badges. Its certainly happening, Im seeing loads of different EV brands now.
Have you not seen that Tesla was the best selling car in Europe for Q1 2023. They're sacrificing profits for market share. Considering they're probably the only car maker of EVs actually making a profit per car and its a decent profit margin too.
They can afford to reduce prices, increase sales, crush the legacy makers, who are loss making per EV vehicle they sell.
This is backed by announcements of extra production shifts in Germany.

Grumpy, your mate is a muppet, he's kidding no one by putting a green marker on his plate. He achieves nothing, it wont exempt his vehicle from ULEZ zones of the future.
I dont know the actual legislation but he could get pulled by Dibble, fined for non conforming plate. HMG did alter rules to allow only EV's . I had to ensure my new private plate with green marker was going on my Model S

If that does happen ? If it does , I really donāt think itās cause for celebration?

If they don't embrace the EV revolution then yes they deserve to fail.
My 6.2litre F150 is ULEZ compliant, but I wouldn't take it into London or any other city

Wonāt be that, as such areas are covered by ANPR cameras, the authorities know who is allowed in, and who pays a fine, it just a marker to make the owner look good

When green number plates were announced, the-then Transport Minister Rachel Maclean said they would āraise awarenessā of electric cars. This awareness raising would potentially encourage people to buy an electric car ahead of the planned ban on the sales of new petrol and diesel cars through 2030 and 2035.
The Department for Transport also said green plates could āunlock a number of incentives for driversā. Precisely what these would comprise was not stated, though it was hoped, for example, that councils might offer reduced parking rates of EVs with green plates.
These incentives have not to materialised for a number of reasons, including how people fitting green plates to petrol and diesel cars could be prevented from fraudulently obtaining any benefits that might be offered, and the fact that if any incentives were wanted to be offered for EV drivers these could already by facilitated due to the fact that what fuel a car is powered by is already recorded, with this information being obtainable to organistions via the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency already.
