So give an example. How far from Newcastle? What distribution of jobs and how many? Calculate the mileage involved.
I suspect you will find that you don't need a van that can drive 500 miles without refuelling.

From West Yorks to Site (East side of Newcastle) around 220 miles round trip, don't necessarily have other jobs near, so next nearest was near the airport in this instance, so reasonably close, grand total of just shy 260 miles, current van does 600+ miles per tank.
Jobs don't drop close to each other, some days you have no choice but to do the miles, some sites can be 5 Miles away and have a days worth of work, swings & roundabouts

I can't afford one, whether or not other people can does not affect my own circumstances.....

If the majority of car buyers (new or used) can afford an EV then maybe I am an outlier as your post suggests.

The problem is once the rule changes really start to kick in you won't be able to afford to run an ICE, or drive them in cites and larger towns so you had better get saving.

Or even better adjust your lifestyles accordingly. But that is of course a joke because that's not going to happen is it.

Why will you not be able to afford to run an ice?

Taxes have never been retrospective and commercial vehicles are way behind private vehicles in take up so fuel will be around for decades!

Fuel prices at the pump will rocket, "road tax" will rocket . This will be the sticks they use to drive ICE's for domestic use off the road.

I think it will be a long time before there’s no longer ICE vehicles. What about all the people with relatively new motor homes. If they are well looked after, they can last for 20 plus years.

They will be worthless in a decade.

All the Arab petroleum states are hurriedly realigning there economy because they know what is coming and they wouldn't be doing that if supply was assured.

Also crude oil is a valuable feedstock for so many things that in a decade or two it will look silly to be burning it just to move a few miles.

Battery tech has already enabled the switch over to ICEs .

The writing has been on the wall for decades, no one can really be surprised.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Any thoughts on how the tax revenue from sales of petrol and diesel will be replaced? Will electricity used to charge EV's become more expensive?
