not for a long time yet , if there are limited options for people then , we will just be paying more and maybe driving less . I guarantee though that tax will need to be generated and if it’s not fossil fuel, they are coming after the EVs!
Right now I’m not worried about any of that as by the t
I can't imagine the government letting the tax revenue from transport dwindle as ICE vehicles are replaced by EVs.
I'm sure plenty of options have been carefully studied.
POssibly some combination of:
1) road charging
2) "tax disc"
3) energy tax
4) other?
Road charging; will be interesting to see what happens if local congestion charges overlap with national charging schemes. Could get messy.
The tax "disc"; should apply to all vehicles, although always with a punitive addition for ICE emissions. Interesting to hear all the talk from
Germany of ICE cars being permitted for longer with 'carbon neutral' fuels. Carbon emissions are only one issue with ICEs.
Energy tax; I undersand that smart meters and smart chargers already allow EVs to charge at a different tariff to appliances in the rest of the property, so there's no reason why different VAT rates or even duty could be applied. Be interesting to see if charging from home-generated electricity would face the same tax/duty.
