Are we being forced to go electric?

And because pollution kills ?

There are some interesting studies showing that the reductions in NOx and hydroxyl radicals due to lack of car use, which would be the same with an increase in EV's, have vastly increased levels of atmospheric methane with a far higher global warming potential than CO2, and also increasing the very harmful ground level ozone, as well as increasing temperatures due to the reduction in atmospheric dimming from secondary formation particulates.

EV's may not be the solution to the perceived problem, in fact they could be making it worse.

As do cars however they’re powered…perhaps those taxes should be preferentially used to fund affordable / subsidise alternatives to private cars, rather than facilitating (more) car ownership?
UK Governments are however unable to see beyond car is king for the most part

Do you have a link to the studies?

You should be happy then. The government are getting rid of ICE cars. Yaaay for them !

I'm all for public transport - not quite sure our Government is though. Rail services are just getting worse.
Get rid of private cars, however they're powered. But why subsidise one in favour of the other.

ITV programme now.

TBH every time I commute in the car, any car, I'd rather be getting pi$$ wet through on my bike.

Why aren't you then?

I am. I occasionally use the car, like today. MrsF wanted a lift into town as she was out on the lemonade this evening, so I drove (we work a few miles appart but the traffic between the two sites means I'll ride, she can sit in traffic. - She had a 30 minute walk to work after I dropped her off.

Today... Grrr, stuck in traffic, horrid !

Why should the government subsidise one form of transport (cars) in the form of elctric over another….

Hmmmm you mean in the same way as they subsidise cycling with tax breaks you mean????

i mean i dont see a train to work scheme or a bus to work scheme, but they do a cycle to work scheme….

so why is it ok to subsidise cycling, but not other forms of transport???

What a joke those scheme are…..one is an employer providing a bus themselves. The other two provide subsidised passes……but you have to have buses and trains available to use first.

For me to use a train for work, i would have to drive 4 miles or 8 miles to the two closest train stations.

The train 4 miles away goes in the opposite direction of where i work, the other train 8 miles away, would mean a further 3 mile walk after stopping at the closest station to where i work.

The car is king due to a total break down in infrastructure.

Also its easy to provide links to so called schemes, but are companies offering them, do companies even know about them in the first place……everyone knows about cycle2work.

But lets get back to your original comment

“ why should i subsidise your private car use”…..well why should i subsidise people's, cycling, bus and train use???
