"Transport for Wales has been tasked by the Welsh Government to lead a project to install rapid charging at a handful of strategic locations. The Transport for Wales project consists of £2 million funding and proposed concession agreements to facilitate the installation of rapid charging and key points in Wales’ transport network"

From the Welsh Government EV charging strategy paper. The money comes from the Senedd grants and the £2m covers the whole of Wales. It is great that Blaenau Gwent has installed eight public charging points, but they did not source all of the money and that eight points needs to be increased a hell of a lot to meet the needs of an area that population size and geography.

So again, it didnt come from central government did it??? No it came from the welsh government.

and there is not just 8 in blaenau gwent, thats just the ones the council put in, there are also points in asda brynmawr, morrisons ebbw vale, tescos ebbw vale, tesco abertillery….i could go on, but some one else who doesnt live here will pipe up with another comment soon.

So far there are 68 Charging points available for use in Blaenau Gwent. Not a bad start really

Believe me, there are people in this thread that would pay upwards of 5k for a bike, but wouldn't pay 3k for a car…….

The whole thread is full of them, just my opinion

Priorities - this is a cycling forum !

i agree it is a cycling forum, but this is the motoring section of that said forum and there will be tough decisions for some to make in the future on vehicular use, whether that be ICE or Leccy.....but we all know changes need to be made.

Some of us including you, have started to makes lots of those changes, from commuting, to energy saving, to leccy cars....some are just against everything.

Pointing out the flaws and discrimination in one option, is far from not accepting any option.

Claims of jam tomorrow are fantasies unless they are backed with very robust evidence to support them.

Ignoring the faults and consequences is a recipe for future problems that could be worse than the one that is claimed by some (but disputed by many others) to need resolving.

My response was to your post about the provision of eight charging points by the local authority.

The funding was agreed and signed off by the Welsh Government but as you know most of their money is allocated by Central Government, either as part of the block grant or, in this case, possibly via OZEV for EV infrastructure. Either way most of the money comes from Central Government as opposed to the LA.

Without Central Government funding no LA could afford to develop the infrastructure with their limited funding and increasing calls on their services.

It's a very common misconception. Lots of people genuinely think that LA paid for the infrastructure and Central Government pays for warships and submarines.

You are also aware or maybe not, that taxes paid by residents in wales, that a % now goes direct to welsh government, therefore by passing central government and those tax revenues are ear marked for projects in wales……

but we are edging on political now, so i will no longer respond to these types of posts.

Surely in devolved Wales, Welsh government equates to / is the main central government decision maker even if sone funding comes from Westminster (as opposed to local government/councils which also receive money from above)

No, central government is westminster, devolved government is welsh gov or the senydd.

But were are edging on political now and i wont respond to these types of posts any longer.

That is why I said "most of their money is allocated by Central Government" rather than all their money.

I would have thought that talking about the facts of governments' funding is fine within this forum when relating to an acceptable topic such as EV infrastructure. It is not politically argumentative or judgemental.

There is a post above by someone who asks

” why should i fund your electrical car usage”……

which could be asked by many tax payers about many things they fund through taxes that others may never use or access themselves.
