Some call them that here too but the word pirtie would be much more common. Is that used in Scotland too or is it a uniquely East Donegal word?

I always assumed it was Ulster-Scots in origin, or from the gaelic word prátaí.

I spent large parts of my childhood in Fermanagh and I never heard it there.

Never heard that word before but it could well be a corruption of a gaelic word.

It must be an easy Donegal/Derry word then.

It actually saddens me that so many lical words and phrases that were common have suddenly disappeared as the younger generation now seem to talk like Americans.
