I am thinking of putting this orangeri in my garden. It is 9 square metres. I know little about construction work.

It is a single skin wall, 12 courses high. We have sandy soil in the garden. What depth and width would the foundation need to be and would I need hard core in the bottom of the trench?

Caveat that I'm not a brickie - but had to look into this a little while ago as a friend was building a garden room. For trench footings, they should be between 600 and 900mm deep, you can use hardcore at the base of the trench but the concrete should be around 150mm deep.

Check with building regulations for your area they should have a solid guideline.

First,it won’t come under building regs so do what you want.

A 150 deep x 300mm poured footing will be more than sufficient,
Two courses below ground below ground is enough.
Are you doing it yourself? I’d still suggest a damp proof course if you are.

Hard core isn’t really needed but if you want belt and braces and a good level then why not.
You do have to ask though if you’re laying a footing 300mm wide, how on earth are you going to compact at the hard-core?
