Granted, but you still want fried bread (ideally crispy) rather than merly toasted bread

I haven't had fried (normal) bread in almost 40 years. Nobody else apart from my granny ever fried bread and it has never occurred to me to do it myself. I just remember it as a soggy mess.

Potato bread (Tattie scone) is a different matter. It's nice fried or toasted.

Fried bread should be crispy. It always is when I do it (only about 3-4 times a year). Best with bread just starting to go stale.

For the best fried bread you have to have fried tomatoes first, ideally squashing them a bit, then you get the slightly burnt left over bits of tomato sticking to the fried bread. Food of the Gods!

It should go without saying that the bread must be fried in the bacon fat
