A friend bought a Leyland 272 tractor a few years ago and asked me to look at the electrics as nothing worked properly.

Every part of the loom seemed to be melted and I was scratching my head wondering what had happened. All was revealed when I opened the fuse box and found someone had replaced all the old-fashioned glass fuses with 1/4" bolts...

Seemed very practical to whoever did it but fortunately not full mains voltage as in my distillery.

Tractors in the pre-quiet cab era generally didn't contain many combustibles so a few melted wires weren't usually an issue. They don't actually need electrics to make them run either.

The electrical system on a lot of older tractors that haven't been restored usually leaves a lot to be desired after 50+ years of mend and make do. The problem comes if it's parked in the hay shed or covered it chaff with a few oil leaks mixed in.
