Many will include the surname when annoyed, but just using the surname did make it seem very contrived in that joke.

There is the rather classist gag where the mother has called all five her boys John...
Man arrives home and says to his wife....I bought some new condoms called Olympic style as they all have different colours....gold, silver or bronze.
