Theres a good gplama video about the realism setting.

:okay:

For training, having realism at zero means most of power control comes from cadence and gear selection rather than course gradient. As gplama et all say, speed will be the same either way, but if erg as per Randy isn't working well then this could be a good compromise.Def worth a try :bicycle:

Then to rub in my failure @Aleman easily does the purple unicorn. Probably just to make me feel bad.
Oh yeah, it was easy, had to drop the FTP level to 97% after the third rep of the first interval!! and it never got any easier. One thing I wonder is if your FTP is set too high ... Although I'm also wondering if my FTP is set too low ... I did a BRVR ride on Thursday though and only managed to hold 208W for an hour, so I don't think it is... I just don't know how these work outs are supposed to feel. I've read up on the Build Me Up workout on the guys blog and it is supposed to be low residual fatigue from the sessions, so I'm guessing that it's not supposed to completely empty the tank every/any session.

I Still want to get down to 136/137lbs, but it's being hard, nothing has shifted for a good 6 months I've been 149/150lbs since Feb. don't know what to do to start it happening again. I guess I could consider the plain boiled rice and grilled chicken diet ... If it worked for Sir Brad ...

Whats the main difference between "build me up" and the FTP builder plan? I'm just working through the FTP builder for the second time, should I consider something different in the new year when this one finishes? Essentially I'm aiming to improve my average speed over all distances to keep up with a few friends that I have slowed down all year. I also need to lose some weight, I'm 106kg currently but would like to be nearer 90-95kg. I've decided to concentrate on that after christmas  I dont drink and already control my diet quite well due to health issues so I guess its going to come down to just eating less which I'm not looking forward to

Zwift thinks my ftp is 257 based on one hilly ny race. I have it set to 240 for these workouts and I'm still reducing the effort below 100 % towards the end. After yesterday's workout zwift put me up to 243 which I'll leave for now.

As I say, key is to get through the workout and have not much left, not what the ftp value is. I'd rather set it sensible to allow a good workout .

I cannot link directly to the latest vid on ideal weight loss but an interesting watch and warning.

https://www.globalcyclingnetwork.com/

I've pretty much come to the conclusion, I'm not going to be a sub 200lb rider. Well not for any significant period of time. I'm stable around 205lb, to be constantly trying to attain a few extra pounds of weight loss, is detrimental to just enjoying riding/racing.

I was around 10.5 stone so 68 kilos until my mid 30’s. 70-72 kilos Is not unreasonable given I have lost some upper body muscle mas with age and concentration on cycling. Any less than that though would mean giving up too much of what I enjoy in life and , other than for a Marmotte or similar is simply not worth it.
Best to work on power and technique.

I was performing ok in Tenerife and whilst at the back on most long climbs I wasn't so far back to worry about. TBT gave me thumbs up on my improvement in performance each time I've been, with new PBs on all the climbs. Power/ weight training starts this month.
