I do like things being constant ! If someone is constantly better than me and I am catching up then it’s got to be good for me - the thing that annoyed me was in one race it would be close and another they were either miles ahead or behind - there was no way of gauging personal gains
I used to like the pro
But I really like the neo

Tommy you're right with the true accuracy of using HR, it does fluctuate and if I have unusually high or low HR then something is wrong and i shouldn't be pushing to hit any number. I can gauge that 148-155bpm at 90-95rpm is ~250W 165-170bpm same cadence is ~300W

Going up mountains for me, is more about getting up them comfortably, I'm never going to chase down anyone who is 15-20KG lighter. The Pb's are my personal challenge.

I'll see how my new gearing works in Gran Canaria, Im hoping to stay above 90rpm whilst keeping as low as possible HR, ideally zone 2
What gearing is that? I'm on a 34/32 here. Could use even lighter gear - some really steep sections here.

Totally agree with this - the lack of consistency on Bkool at the end (it wasn't always like that) was the final straw that made me decide to stick with just Zwift

Don’t forget gear ratio and wind strength / direction. like I say, I’d be super surprised if you have a gage as close as you think you do.

Also powemeters aren’t just for ‘in the moment’. It’s also the best way of looking back at a session to reviews effort. Using average speed or hr, or just speed in general is highly flawed.

Thing is, if i got a power meter i'd no longer need the kickr (i assume) and would be just as well off using the Bkool Pro. I'd also need new shoes as mine are SPDs and i don't believe there are pedal meters for SPDs.

Cash it tight at the moment as had to go part time, so nothing on the cards, but if the kickr did die at some stage I'd be more interested in the Neo smart bike ..... but I'll let early adopters test it out first and iron out the bugs

I get that totally. Don’t get me wrong, for the guys like yourself, bob, and andy. Who do the vast majority of your riding indoors, a power meter probably isn’t as big a thing. But it should be higher on everyone’s list than electronic gearing or deep rim wheels if you want to see the biggest gains.

What cadence are you able to sustain with a lowish HR Lars?

I've got much lower gearing, so can if needs be drop back into zone 2 and still sustain a decent cadence. That is what I'm looking to do as Gran Canarie and Tenerife the following month are part of my base training program

Back is on charge and will be dismantled tomorrow for packing .

If you train with a reliable power source like the neo or a decent power meter, you can look at your own numbers to gage improvement rather than just comparing yourself to others. Bkool was obviously a bit of a joke. But you still have other variables like how the other guy is feeling on the day. Power is the truth. Just saying...
