Congratulations! That takes you to two now, doesn’t it?

I was due to do a 2 hr Recovery/Endurance ride yesterday but I was at the in-laws most of the day and weather was rubbish when we got home so I gave in to temptation and did a Zwift race - my first for a while.

I went for the Cobble Crusher - Lutece as it had a decent field of 129 in C. I had thought about racing in B and joining @Peter Salt but stuck with C in the end.

I felt strong - which was unsurprising as my coach has me in the "Fresh" zone as he wants me firing next week in Calpe.

My plan, such as it was, was to stay near but not at the front so I didn't become a Burrito victim. Also at the end, the plan was not to wait for the perfect spring start point but to try and stay in the top 5 at all times no matter how hard so I didn't have to chase down too many riders who had sprinted early. I also thought I'd try using a ghost to get away about 1km from the end.

The "plan" worked well and with 1.5km km to go I was in the front 5 or so. With 1.2km to go I activated the ghost and put some power down. I didn't make any gap, probably a bit dumb trying when we were already doing 50+ kph.

With 700m to go, the first flier went and I jumped as best I could holding about 6.5 w/kg till the end. I didn't have any higher sprint in me and I came in 3rd. Surprisingly, I got my best indoor 5 minute power of 2023.

I had averaged 3.4 w/kg for the race and thought I may get DQ'd but apparently not and it hasn't put me in B either. Happy days.
