Thanks Peter for the tow while it lasted it got me across the flats quicker.
stage 5 FRR done .1.25.26 ,68th on zwiftpower out of 120ish . Lost the front of the group at the first sprint tired to sprint but had no kick in the legs so rode with a smaller group up the first climb . Got caught by a faster A group on containing @Peter Salt on the flats so pace picked up lost them on the rollers before titans reverse small group rode to the finish catching @steverob on the way

I see you've both joined the A pen for the ride. Not sure I could cope with the pace out of the gate on that, so I'd lose any extra draft effect almost immediately. I'll stick with the C pen which should be a bit more sensible for me - let's see how long it takes you to eat into my five minute advantage!
I think it was Derek in pen A with me. Interestingly, he was just 30s quicker than Phil, despite putting in way more effort. So yes, if you lost the draft you were a goner.

The pace through the desert was bonkers. I was at the front after the sprint but didn't expect what came next. The blob started to look more like a comet, shredding itself and producing a lovely tail - of dropped riders. It was just a matter of minutes before I was one of them. Did 300W for 5 minutes and it wasn't enough.
I should be in C pen Steve ,I will check . I'm sure @Peter Salt has promised to slow down when he catches us to drag us along
Prophetic words!

After being spat out the back with a few other riders, a group of around 10 of us kept up a reasonable pace and started picking up more. Unfortunately, at some stage it just became too many and they eased off quite considerably.

Still, enough to catch @13 rider and pull him along ;) If it wasn't for those bloomin' rollers you would have hung on till the end. Good job.

And a proper battle with yourself @steverob, the pain will pay dividends :okay:

I don't know about that, I was in absolute agony for those last few miles - very tempted to stop completely. It took me three attempts to even get off the bike afterwards, my legs were so sore!

As I've already mentioned on the other thread, I almost got distanced by the front pack through the first sprint but just hung on and that's the main reason it took so long for yourself and Phil to catch me. That and holding in the large A group that came through just as the desert started, which gave me at least a one minute boost through that section. After being dropped and soloing up Titans, I held Phil's group as they came through but my legs gave up with three miles left and I limped home.

Happy bunny this morning. The pain of bashing my head trying to get IT to work-not my forte at all. Thats all forgotten now

I know for you city dwellers, these numbers will be a blah, but I managed to go with a 5g mobile connection with directional antenna and now reliably get 100mbits up and down. ^_^

With the new business class wifi 6 access points we are getting great coverage too :hyper:

Yep it was me in Pen A with you. Really odd race for me. Did this report on the Level Esports Discord.

Had my best race yesterday, finishing about 60th out of 120 in Habanero Class

Today, I felt really lethargic in my warm up. I seriously thought of sitting today out, while still wanting to ride each event this week. A slight conundrum!

Decided to start and see how I felt. Big field, pace high again at the start. Held position until the first sprint. Gave it a go. Expected to get dropped and I wasn’t disappointed!

But the effort was worth it as I got into a big group that formed after the first sprint. By the time we got to the Oasis, I was starting to feel a bit better and thought I can do this, but let’s see how Titans goes. It went really well. I took 17s off my PB and was near the front of the group all the way up.

But with the KoM line in sight, fatigue got me. I just didn’t have enough to push over the top and I got gapped and let them go on the descent.

I managed to catch one guy on the descent as I seemed to recover and then we picked up a group of Pen C riders as we headed across the desert - except I seemed to spend most of my time on the front!

We turned on to Titans for the 2nd climb and suddenly I was climbing well and dropped the entire group I was riding with. I’d put 25 seconds into the other A pen rider by the KoM.

But another 2 Pen A riders caught me by the KoM. We descended as a group, picking up 3 Pen C riders on the descent. The group stayed together until the end and the pace went up as one of the Pen A riders (Cat GHT) kept trying to break away, but we kept pulling him back.

We dropped one guy but the other 5 sprinted for the line together and we were all within 1 second of each other.

I improved my PB on this course by just under 15 minutes and also had a PB on the forward sprint.

Odd race all in all. Nearly pulled out. Then felt ok. Smashed it up Titans but the blow-up at the top cost me minutes. But I recovered surprisingly well on the descent and then rode very well for the rest of the race. Fatigue is strange!

Bit of a left field question.

Why do so many randoms follow you on Zwift? I now have 214 followers and every time I log into Zwift Companion I seem to have a couple more?
Yes odd indeed ride a race with someone once and they what to follow you
There is a setting in settings/privacy to approve follow requests a bit like Strava follow requests . Haven't found a way of getting people of my follow list

I think at the end of each ride there's a screen that shows some of the people you rode with and if they press the button next to your name it's a follow. Might be like Twitter was at some point when people used to follow in the hope/expectation of a follow-back. I only follow people I either know or am interested in. I expect it happens a lot on pace partner rides.
