On a race at the weekend, having been dropped by the group I was in, I caught another solo-ing rider with 3 miles to go. I figured they might appreciate the company and maybe could share the load to try and keep the group behind us away. Nope - they persistently sat on my wheel, accelerating to 4 w/kg every time it looked like I might be pulling away, slowing to 1 w/kg whenever they came close to pulling level with me.

I didn't have the energy left to put in a sustained dig to get clear of them, so instead I put on the brakes and slowed to sub 1-w/kg and watched to see what they would do. They STILL would not take the hint and tried to remain behind me, so I waited until the group behind caught us with half a mile to go (I think there was only a small chance of them catching if I had stayed doing my normal watts), accelerated and latched on to the back of them and left the wheelsucking rider behind.

I let that group contest the sprint and rolled in easy behind them, still a few seconds ahead of the dropped rider. I'd lost about five positions to make my point, but they'd lost six, so I'm claiming the high ground!

Kind of a same story here. Went from sixty-something to top 50, mostly on account of people not doing all the stages. I'm also top 30 in sprints but outside 100 for climbs :laugh:

Today has a nice start with 10k of desert. I'll try to hold on to front through Titans Grove rollers but then get dropped on the KOM and hope for a reasonably-paced group.

With mass start, large numbers, and this course, it's a perfect setting for an FTP upgrade, if one has fresh legs, which I don't.

Game on for GC. Just done Flat is Fast as a C.
I'd written down 27:12 as Martin @Norry1 's time. I was 3s off the win in 18th place with a time of 27:12.8 Martin got 27:12.7
That's OK mate. You can be group 1 for SBP. I've made the arrangements with WTRL. It's clearly correct!

If I could have my time again on that race I wouldn't have bothered bridging at the end of Tempus and using the aero helmet because the pack chased that little group down anyway. If I'd had it at the end, I probably would have chopped a second off. Very hard to win a flat one as a lightweight. Would suit @CXRAndy very well.

^_^ ^_^ ^_^:okay:

That is bizarre, separated by 0.1 sec.

We've both gotta improve to catch @Joffey
Let's see how the others do.

I think race choice will be the key on these flat stages. The evening race on Tuesday had over 400 in Cat C and was a minute faster than my race.

Have put myself down for the 17:30 FRR today, but will see how I feel nearer the time.
Might try and make 17.30 ,field currently twice the size of 1830 which will make a difference on the flatter bits

Indeed, but I'd still rather race daytime apart from ZRL for this round. Today's was a good workout. I was at 90% IF and it gave me a training load of 50. Probably do next week's on Thursday if we've got ZRL on Tue.

I'm down for the same one :okay:
I see you've both joined the A pen for the ride. Not sure I could cope with the pace out of the gate on that, so I'd lose any extra draft effect almost immediately. I'll stick with the C pen which should be a bit more sensible for me - let's see how long it takes you to eat into my five minute advantage!
