I’m on the dry January wagon as well - the last two years I’ve made it to St Paddy’s day in March. I’ll admit though I had a glass of ‘Nosecco’ on NYD, only to be told after quaffing the glassful that it’s actually 0.5% alcohol rather than 0%. 😬

That's similar to fruit juice. You'd need to drink about 30 bottles of nosecco to get drunk.

Happy New Year kids! I have been absent for a bit doing family stuff and haven't touched the bike at all... so looking to get started back up and see some have been doing a series... is it on tonight?

In other news it looks like we are getting some Foster Children next week... Bit of a shock! I'll be primary carer so in charge of cooking tea so can give even better food updates going forward. Hoping they like chicken nuggets and turkey dinosaurs because I do :laugh:
That's a pretty good excuse for not posting to be fair

stage 3 FRR done 1.44.01,lost the first group up the first climb ,group of 5 to the epic this splinttered up that 3 of us to the radio tower despite me setting a pr still got dropped a long lonely 20km to the finish . Put on my climbing wheels zip202 ? .I seemed to lose a lot of time on the flats to riders around me ,could be I was just knackered but im blaming the wheels
The volcano climb is becoming the new Fox hill to me

Well done Phil. (Nutter :laugh:). My race was ruined by a phone call in the last few minutes of warmup time and then about 6 ZP B riders were in the C race. I did one lap 30s faster than when I time-trialled it solo, then realised I was toast, so quit. Will try again with a CE race soon.

1:50:37 on Stage 3 of FRR Watopia.

Even if I hadn't done those two races yesterday, I know I would have got dropped on the Hilly KOM (e.g. within a mile of the start) regardless, so I decided not to even try racing, keep to my own pace and let everybody disappear into the distance. And that definitely happened - apart from people coming down the Radio Tower climb as I was going up it, I barely saw another rider all race. I was 45th out of 48 at the top of the first hill, then 44th at the top of the Epic and 43rd over the Volcano and at the finish line.

But I did get my second best time up the Epic and PR'd on the Epic/Tower combo - not that that's much to shout about as I'd never done those climbs as a race before, so my previous times weren't exactly stellar.
Nicely done guys. I found it quite brutal as well. Snail race up the Radio Tower was quite hilarious :laugh:

Didn't even try to stick to the front up the climb. Instead, just pushed at a reasonable pace.

I did the stage on the Meilensteins @13 rider so fully climb-oriented. Looking around most people did.

@Joffey - hope the fostering goes well. They'll probably be as nervous as you are, or fed up of being shifted around. A friendly home makes a massive difference. SWMBO was fostered for 18 months when she was young, and we met up with her foster family when visiting South Africa back in 2016.

Had a play at the Madhare 'training ride' this evening, supposedly a C-event but the front group was full of B's. Did OK for a non-sprinter :whistle:

I think the first 6kms are the best as I'm still in the race . I forgot your solo breakaway comment I did come to the front afterwards to do a pull and hoped everyone would think we had a cunning team plan and pull to stop a breakaway ,not sure it worked out that way .
I meant to ask how were the disc wheels on the climb

They were fine, I honestly dont notice the drag, being a tiny proportion of my overall weight. So whatever drag factor Zwift applies to full aero on climbs=Zilch to me.

On the flats, do seem to allow less effort for speed, especially as you go faster-like drafting the A cats

I'd always go full aero wheels or Tron which is so close in performance

Out of the three of us who have completed the first three stages of the Flamme Rouge Watopia Tour so far, here's the results:

@Peter Salt - 2 hrs 53 mins 1 sec - 75th out of 160 in GHT category
@13 rider - 3 hrs 29 mins 10 secs - 111th out of 195 in BON category
@steverob - 3 hrs 30 mins 3 secs - 68th out of 126 in CAY category

Unfortunately my run ends there as I'm not going to have a chance to do today's stage. Hoping to get Thursday's and Friday's done though.
