Andy and Martin have both sneaked ahead

So I can afford very little loss on the climbs

Sounds like you burnt too many matches Alex trying to hang onto the B's which dented your efforts after the viaduct.

I think I got toasted trying to hang on. Looking back on the video, I was kind of getting into a death spiral a bit before the aqueduct, falling off the back a bit and having to press hard again to get back. It was coming at some point.

Saying that if you were in a small group, your pace would be generally slower than a big pack.

Yeah after Aqueduc I had 2 in front by 4s and 2 behind by 4s. I didn't have enough to press forward so I fell back. Those two in front finished 50s ahead of me. The two behind weren't pressing quite as much as I felt I could have, but there wasn't much to be gained by going solo and nobody else caught up with us. I think if there had been a split a bit earlier or I could have hung on up Aqueduc, I might have been able to latch onto a group of riders, but once the legs stop delivering, you have to back off.

There will be an initial selection right at the start as well up the KOM.

I will go flat out up the first climb to get a good group. I will be dropped on the other two climbs so it will partly down to luck who I team up with

To be fair, that race was a sandbaggers paradise cause there's no category enforcement (except post race in ZP). Out of the twelve riders in the front C group, 7 of them were actually B's or higher - no wonder I couldn't keep up.

Three times on that first slope up after leaving the pens I saw a gap open up in front of me and I sprinted to catch back on. The first two times I was just about to get back on when I suddenly realised the guy I was now sat behind was also falling back meaning I had to continue my sprint and go round him! On the third occasion I knew I didn't have enough left to respond and watched as the larger pack disappeared plus the five riders behind me who I had essentially been towing up the hill overtook me, but thankfully I was able to hold on to them and went with them (plus another ten or so who caught us halfway round the first lap) all the way to the end.

Finished fourth out of our little pack - two leapt off the front early, with one other outsprinting me. Zwift had me in 69th overall and 20th in C, but came 10th on ZwiftPower once you took out the DQs.

Well that was just like the original BKOOL days - getting dropped right from the start!

I did go a bit deep in the DIRT series ITT a bit earlier though - I know, I know, no sympathy from any of you though ^_^

Pace was a bit mad as it looked like an a or two was up ahead, not surprised you were gassed though after your TT. Fun riding with you Peter Alan and Steve. I got a feather on last lap which was handy and 1 min power surprised me a bit for a podium, Pete not far behind. Very flat course which suited me well but not much recovery in it with the A's mixed in!

People don't get how burritos work do they? Lots of self sabotage about.
