Just watched Steen's ride. He got a Pb up the viaduct:okay:.

He was just 9 secs behind the lead riders, that was enough to blow the whole lead pack apart!

I’ve entered this

https://www.zwift.com/events/view/3336458

At 18:30 if anyone fancies it. It already has quite a few runners but maybe it’s too early for some you [?]. It’s not a dissimilar course to the one at 7:30. Just a bit longer and with more entered.

@berty bassett?

I’ve entered the one you guys are doing too. Kind of stuck between wanting to ride with you guys but also mindful that unless the numbers get bigger in A and B it is prob better to do another race too. I’ll either do both or just the 7:30 if enough people join in A.

Ironically having been the first of the Cs to bail at the chance to race this evening, I may now be available again. Christmas meal was called off due to too many people calling in sick, so I've decided to work from home and have the evening spare. Was a consensus reached about what course we were doing? Not that I really feel like having my arse handed to me by a bunch of A and B riders, but it's this or a Pace Partner (or whatever they're called nowadays).

It didn't feel like sneaking last night ^_^

I compared Andy's and my vids. We got to Aqueduc about 37s before his group. Pity I couldn't hold on and had to let go at that point.

To be fair, Andy and Carl's performances were pretty impressive in a very strong and large field.

They were. Pair of beasts

Steen and I were both in top third as well so a good Cyclechat result

Oh yeah - forgot to look at the team table. 23rd in C. Not 23rd in B as there's only one of us.

Yep racing, in real life even more so, is all about making the separations. That is why it isn't just the best FTP that wins everything.

I haven't got anywhere near enough snap at the minute.

I find in C I can hold on for the flats/rollers and have an advantage on the hills. In B I struggle to hold on longer than about 15-18 minutes and have no advantage on the hills.

Persevere is all I’d say Alex. I always think the course and race is only relative to who you’re competing with. I’ve never been dropped on the esses in a B race, in fact it’s often a place to consolidate my energy. But in A I was just hanging on.

But I think the trouble is if you don’t go out of your comfort zone you kind of end up stagnating.

Sounds like you burnt too many matches Alex trying to hang onto the B's which dented your efforts after the viaduct.

Saying that if you were in a small group, your pace would be generally slower than a big pack.
