Completed the Tour of Makuri yesterday with 2 free rides. Had zero energy - and I mean zero. Averaging 132W was a grind  Maybe the Covid/Flu jabs were kicking in.
Did much the same on Wednesday night, crossing off two stages by doing free rides back to back (still have one to go to complete). Most of it was done in Zone 2/3, but on the first course about halfway round, my route happened to coincide with the Yumi Pace Partner group (2.9 w/kg - ZRL first 5 mins pace for me) so I pushed super hard to latch onto the back and just about managed to hang on. Even though I only stayed with them for about 3 miles until they branched off elsewhere, the extra speed I got by being in that group ended up giving me a PR for the course on Strava!

I’m actually looking forward to hearing your feed back on the new bike @CXRAndy. Other than Brendan (Anyone heard from him?), I don’t know anyone who’s used one first hand. Mechanically it’s on its own isn’t it in terms of the way they’ve built it? The fly wheel is very big which must have positives. I’d like to try one to compare it to the neo. I’m definitely sold on complete bike rather than bike on turbo. Not that there’s anything really wrong with either option in principle. But I think most people don’t go back.

I just knew even though my atom had problems I didn’t want to go back. It’s so nice and, touch wood, maintenance free in general.

Do you always stand for a sprint ?
Yes Lee, spin up from large gear to build cadence. My best sprints are usually over 125 rpm cadence
I always sit ... but same as you, I really spin up the cadence. I find standing I lose momentum so seated (on Zwift anyway) is better for me.

Maybe I need to practice standing and see if I can get more power as I seem to be stuck just over 1000 watts ... to beat the best C guys I need to be adding another 200 watts I think
Absolutely stand up for a sprint. If anyone is interested, here's kind of how I do it. Not an expert, but getting progressively better:

Before the sprint, get in your 'sprinting gear' - as Andy said, best to target something where you'll stay around 120 rpm as long as you can - stay seated and put your hands on the drops. Last pedal stroke before dropping the hammer: get off the saddle and move your butt behind it, extend your arms, and lower your centre of gravity (same position as when you're braking downhill). Sprint, all at the same time: Move your body forward and up to maximise the punch, grip the drops and basically treat them like a barbell that you're trying to get off the ground (pull like it was a deadlift). Once you get up to the target cadence, ideally, you would simultaneously pull with your arms wile pushing down on the pedals.

You're looking to improve your sprinting, @berty bassett?

I do need to practice stand up sprints .... maybe one for a Tiny race to see how I get on

Bollocks.

If you change your mind: We're similar height and weight so I could try to help. Or you can ask someone who knows what they're saying

I definitely am out of saddle for sprints (and short uphill bursts). Probably can't describe it in as much detail as that, quite instinctual.

I watched some YouTube of the guys really top of the zp rankings and a few of them have a very specific sprint style. Just nothing like what’s possible outside in the real world. Not transferable at all. But I guess very effective on zwift or they wouldn’t be doing it. Some of them really grinding quite a low cadence even at full pelt.
