Sprint power... C = B = A
Weight............. C=>B=>A

:okay:

With the weight thing - yeah on average that's probably right I think, but its a bit more complicated and not always the case.

For example the top 3 in our race were heavier than in yours. The guy who won our race was 103.6kg, and the next two were 88kg and 90kg, vs the top 3 in your Cat C race who were 79kg, 89kg and 86kg respectively.

Wow, I would have expected them to be slightly lighter, similar power so superior W/kg. Just shows takes all sorts :okay:

The top 3 teams are super strong and equally able across their team. To try and contest sprints, you need 900W and more for sprints and for climbs I had to hit 600W on the last lap KOM just to stay in my pack.

I cant remember ever having to do these numbers a few years ago, maybe I did, they were just easier back then :B)

I think it’s a combination of people getting better at attacking the segments vs resting between them. Which the wrtl really lends itself to I think. And people getting better at avoiding promotion. Not mentioning any names…

Maybe that’s simplifying things a little. But you would expect people to get more sophisticated over time generally wouldn’t you.

I really hope that's not aimed at me

I'm barely hanging on to the lead group for a lap at the moment, so if you really think I'm sandbagging, or anyone else is in the CCC team, you're sorely mistaken

The name Burton comes to mind. Rode an entire season of ZRL and then the first race outside of that went over cat limits, despite stopping for a minute to kill a spider ;)

 I've known Tommy for quite a while now and say without any doubt that if he is in a race he will bust his gut trying to win !
It's not about not trying to win. It's about the nature of ZRL races - they don't usually tend to lead to promotion due to the courses. I call the group of people affected by this 'accidental gimps'.

Carl and the CCC gang leave their lungs on the road every race as well.

Yeah it’s the nature of the wrtl to be fair. That’s what I was alluding to in part really. I have been promoted out of it before the season before last in the last race of that season. And maybe if I’d of raced the hill climb course last season I would have been promoted there too, but I didn’t race that week (purely coincidental your honour! 😄).

If you’re racing for primes then, by definition it eases off between primes normally doesn’t it. Before wrtl it used to still happen, in races with multiple loops with a hill included like Innsbruck. You find the race completely neutralised between hill efforts.

Carl I did say not mentioning many names didn’t I… it’s fairly obvious there’s a large proportion of people at the top of each category who would comfortably sit in the catergory above and go out of their way to avoid promotion. That is going to effect the races by definition isn’t it.

One thing that really got me - and it was especially visible in the race yesterday - is that there's really not that much difference in 'inbetween primes' pace between categories C and B. So it's much easier to be an accidental gimp in B

Just so happens the only race you couldn't make was the one with a 20 min climb?:laugh::laugh: Shouldn't laugh as that's the course that got ME promoted :laugh::laugh:

Well… I actually had the flu at the time, although it wasn’t the only race I missed. I think I missed 2 or 3 last season. But the tougher courses are the ones I look out for so I was a little miffed to miss it.

It was also the first race back after the summer so I don’t think I was pushing the cat boundary at the time anyway in reality. But yeah, it was inevitable that when I got some form back I’d get promoted again and I’ve no regrets because I’d rather be in the toughest races possible. I get a bit bored otherwise.

As I say I think it’s the nature of prime style races that encourage that massive lull between segments. The reason I much prefer hilly races isn’t because I particularly like hills. It’s because it forces people to push to the limit rather than sitting in a pack. I find it a much better work out as much as anything.

As we all do. It's a shame some of you don't recognise that and would rather snipe constantly instead.

This is an internet forum Carl. People come here with different opinions… lots of different opinions on everything… You have lots of opinions too Carl eh…

Do you care if we do or don’t recognise how much effort you put in to an online bike race? Really?

I hope not!

Do what makes you happy, try not to hurt other people, others will always have opinions 👍
