I think we might have to come up with some strategies to see what we can do. Even if it's "all out for finish points"

Probably same as tonight and hope I can nick a point or 2 before I get dropped. I'll definitely go for sprint 1, then see how many more I can last.

I've not done that course before so will need to do a recce to work out where sprints are.

Hopefully once I'm dropped I can find some domestiques to drag me around to the finish 🤣

Team CCC.

Looking at our results we did well, we are all over 50, one 60 and apart from two others we took best places for that age category

So a little cheer for the oldies :highfive::bicycle:

if anyone is interested I will tell the usual story of my race , happened again last night
fast start , hang on to front group , slows down a bit , false sense of security , last 3 mile pace goes up , still hang on , last 2 miles pace goes up , barely hang on , last mile people put out 7w/kg plus , I am spat out the back , last 1/2 mile people are dabbling in 10w/kg +and I am trying to keep in front of a rapidly approaching second group :B) roll across the line on my own , all the leaders and crowd have gone home !

Yeah the FTS points for the C league are faster than ours were! Guess div1 C league is full of sandbaggers?

Yeah, but they ride within cat limits so not much you can do about it. Everyone knows who the real Bs are, but they monitor their numbers to ensure they don't exceed limits.

Makes it all the more fun though if we do manage to steal points off them 🤣

Sounds like a typical C race.

Heheh. I figure you can copy-n-paste this and apply to 90% of races, really.

You're up for the FRR again?

I think I learnt a lesson. If you're in the front group, always contest the last sprint. I ended up burning so much energy to get back on that I might as well have had a crack at the points.

I think it's worth contesting every sprint to a degree, it's 10 seconds of v high effort then a rest versus 45 seconds of pain with no rest. Obviously not always 100%

I don't think that's true actually @mjd1988 - did you click on the C Cat for the FTS prime results? I think you may have been looking at the A Cat results for that race?

As far as I can see every sprint segment was faster in our race than in the C race.

Overall power was higher on average in the B race as well as I think you'd expect (and we did an extra lap of course) although the difference isn't huge and there are some very efficient B riders who did lower w/kg than some C riders (you included Michael as usual!)

That said, there's definitely some very powerful sprinters in the C Cat who would no doubt also do well in a lot of B cat races of this type.

That would explain a lot. Coffee deplete

Mind you 1st and 2nd would have come 6th and 7th FTS.

Looking at that first sprint Andy I think you may have started your full-on sprint effort a bit late - nothing wrong with your power but the front had already gone by then. This particular sprint has that downhill stretch just before it and you need to open up your sprint there to get your speed right up, and then just hang on. Because of that downhill, if you haven't REALLY picked up speed early I don't think you can really do much because others will just be going faster and holding most of that speed right through the sprint.

You were also unlucky that you only had the feather PU - there were a lot of draft and aero PUs going down which would have made a huge difference to those guys.

FWIW I didn't do much better myself first time through! But I did gradually suss it out a bit through the race. When I solo'd off the front for the sprint on lap 2 I was sure I'd get swamped towards the line but I didn't because I'd taken so much speed over the last crest and down that descent, even though my power through the sprint itself was fading badly I had the speed to hold off the much more powerful sprinters.

They are quite close though (FTS of B superimposed on C)

I ain’t sure at moment - can’t see the point if more of us don’t enter in to the ‘ I’m gonna do all of them ‘ spirit
I know people can’t commit but it’s not the same if you ain’t all hurting 😁
Now there a fee more racing in other platforms I might plod along in them
Least then I am only letting myself down on poor performance 😁
