On a good day, on fresh legs, I can get just over 8W/kg for a minute, so this is generally my tactic, too, but it can be quite hard to unleash that power when you've been at 90% FTP for all the race up to that point - the legs tend not to be so fresh then!

It's at that point you hope everyone else is also still fubbered, and the short 8 w/kg to break from the rear of the pack to slingshot through and break the elastic and the 50 seconds at 6w/kg is enough to stay away

That's the exact issue I'm just beginning to be able to grapple with. Until recently I wouldn't be able to hold onto the front bunch for long enough, or if I did, there wouldn't be anything left for a happy ending/good finish. Now it seems to be slotting into place a bit better.
Fresh legs (as in "after a rest day") also makes quite a difference.

did it sound like I was moaning ! sorry I wasn't (much )
I did well in the tts and the climbs where it is individual effort but was clobbered on the group sprints - so be it , in the grand scheme it doesnt matter . as for why would anyone put theirselves in the position of being promoted and not being able to contend for a better placing , personally I wouldn't have it any other way . I will never win but I am getting the most out of a turbo trainer by pushing myself to the limit of this old body - maybe making myself better in the real world but not so good in cartoon world ?, depends what world is more important ^_^
this isn't a dig at anyone at all , everything is lovely

I just did race 1 Makuri. It was quite a hard start and first half up the little climb.

Then a routine middle section. I was in the front bunch of about 30. Got to the last km all flat and thought. "I don't want to slug it out with these guys, I'm going at 700m" So at 700m I deployed aero helmet and went. 2 buggers caught me in the last hundred, but I held on for bronze.

Thanks for that Alex. Think I'll have a bash tomorrow. Where do you find the Series results/positions etc?

Once they sort it out, there will be a link (2022 Race Makuri) on ZP under Leagues where it currently says "2022 Race like a champ"...

I like racing, top 25% in C .

better than some, not most. Enjoy, don't be too obsessed.

Let's face it, non of us are going too be a pro or even amateur champion material- no matter how hard we train.

We have some very talented, strong riders, no names, you know who you are.

Everyone runs to find an admiring mirror

Almost forgot about the final results.

Final team standing: 52/59. Pretty much down to low number of riders. DIRT with over 20+ people is in 50th

08:13:12.721: @Peter Salt, 25th in category and 150th across all participants

302 riders completed all 8 stages.

Yep - it's a computer game as far as I'm concerned. Bloody good fun working out how to do well in it and helps my cycling and fitness.
Also met some good people online through it.
Perhaps one day I'll meet some of them/you IRL. But you know what they say. Never meet your heroes!

It seems important every few months to try and collectively agree in the group what the precise amount of trying or caring should be…

I wonder what a lay person who randomly stumbled on this thread would conclude in that regard. Thinking about it, maybe we’re better off not inviting outside opinion on that one! 🙃

Congrats on the promotion mate. Sad you can't race for Splitters but great news that you are getting fitter and faster 👍

Cheers Joff!

I’m definitely going to miss racing with the team this season. It’s become a staple of my Tuesday night. Well that’s the same for a lot of us I guess isn’t it mate. I dropped my zwift weight a couple of months ago and it’s just tipping me over even though my power is maybe a little down on my expectation. But I’m going to give it a proper go and see if I can make it stick.

If all goes to plan, I will experience the above in a roller coaster fashion.

I'm currently by a mathematical quirk, at the top of D and will no doubt perform well in races. Give it a month tops and as weight falls and power returns I should go into the bottom of C where I'll get thrashed and slowly ascend until I reach top of C where I'll be competitive. All being well, I'll get back to B in a few months where I'll struggle again and unless I return better than I was before the op (unlikely) I'll not get near winning a B race

Enjoy Race Makuri Martin - it has its own League set up on ZP now

At some point, when passing through C, I'm sure you'd be welcome in the CCCs :okay:
