@CXRAndy and @Whorty will be delighted

(I'd already read the WTRL page, but I don't know what the autumn season looked like last year. But having read ZI I now see they've compressed the whole year so it's finished earlier.)

ZI also mentions that the C/D races might be a bit shorter. Now THAT would suit me quite well

I'm washing my hair that day!

Interesting to start with a hilly stage - that might well cause some people to go over category! In previous years the stages with big climbs always came in after the "four race rule" had already taken effect, so riders right on the cusp at the top of their category could sandbag the flat stages and still continue to the end of the season. We'll see if that makes a difference this time round.

In previous seasons they have done either shorter stages (custom finish lines) or fewer laps for C & D in some rounds. I would guess that for us Round 2 might only be two laps, Round 4 will be four or five laps, and Round 6 will finish either at 31.5km (Fuego Flats reverse banner) or 39km (top of Titans Grove).
I think it's a great idea. It'll get rid of the massive outliers, those who are using apps to stay in cat will outsmart it I'm sure but they'll bypass anything I suppose. Better than having the last race of the season a massive climb that everyone PBS and half the field dq'd

From memory the season before last they used the climbers gambit in one of the early races? Didn’t Brams friend get upgraded that way? Maybe I have it wrong.
Climbers Gambit was on the list for the season before last (I opted out of riding it - captains prerogative!) but it was a later round like 5 or 6 out of 8 I believe. The last three seasons have all had flat, mildly rolling or TTT courses for the first few weeks.

It was in the season before last yes - and you're right it's where Dylan got upgraded. But it was the 5th stage that season so lots of people who got upgraded were able to complete the season due to the 4 race rule. I'm pretty sure this is the firts time they've put a stage with a circa 20 minute climb in the first 4 races of a season

I like they've done this, so will make some people (me included) make sure that we go in what we think will be the correct cat. On current fitness I'm definitely mid to low C, but if I think I'm at risk of going into B then I won't risk riding C. I'm happy being on the B team rota too so if fitness does suddenly improve, or the C boys get bored of my swearing, then I could ride for B instead that week.

Who is in the B rota this season?

Yeah I thought it might’ve been something like that.

From a personal perspective I think I might well be directly affected by it. As could be the case for you Paul. Perhaps my only saving grace will be if I’m not in good form at that point. What to do really…

We can have another debate about the obvious flaws in a category system being limited to 20 minute w/kg. But ultimately I think it is what it is….

For the TT challenge, are we using TT bikes only?

Good question, if so I may need DQ'd as I used a Tron. I joined last minute so wasn't sure what the rules were
It makes no difference because TT events don’t have drafting regardless of what bike you use. I think that ZI say that a light TT bike is best. Not sure whether it’s better to use aero wheels or Meilensteins…
