26:05 a new PR improved by 48s ^_^ and a new 20 minute outdoor power record 235W up from 228W. Very pleased with that effort. ^_^

I had my first “in real life” race this evening.

It was a CX race around a nice circuit on a local farm. Loved it!

Unsurprisingly my weakest area was skills. There was a dismount over a set of boards and I was really slow over those, and I could feel myself taking corners better and smoother as the race progressed. To begin with I was braking too much, after a couple of laps I was braking much less and I think saving a lot of energy.

I know I didn’t come last! Waiting on results, but in a field of approx 45 I reckon I was somewhere in the 30s.

Overall I really enjoyed it and would love to do another!

I want to try a CX this year before it starts getting muddy. Looks like a lot of fun.

Moving from Zwift to real-lift racing ... well done to both of you. Just remember that if you do a crit the other riders are real
I've heard cornering is harder too

Having TT'd last week I've a week off before grasstrack racing next Monday probably. Then possibly an E/1/2/3 crit a couple of days later.
Hope those go well.

Finally tried the split B league (DIRT) - was fun being relatively fast up a hill for a change! Ended up pushing best every 5 minute power so definitely didn't go easier than in a full cat B.
Mind you if it becomes more prevalent then people will just sandbag to that level but I'll enjoy it while it lasts!

CX is great, I used to race in the Western League down here in the Bristol area.

Lots of fun & very inclusive.

The Summer League is less competitive and more of a dust fest ( make sure you wear some form of eye protection ).

The Winter League is great especially when the rain/snow/ice arrives... 😳

It certainly improves your bike handling skills, with each club trying to design more challenging courses.

I've done cyclo-cross a few times. It's very much more a friendly race. There is no snobbery to it, turn up with a dedicated CX bike or MTB. Have a blast, be prepared to get off and sometimes carry/push your bike over obstacles or super steep incline s.

Watch out for sandpits, seen a few riders fly over the handlebars 😁😁

There was a really good inclusive atmosphere there last night. It was a lovely evening which helps but there were multiple families pitched up on picnic blankets, and someone was celebrating a birthday with helium balloons and some lovely looking cake!

It was a friendly and welcoming atmosphere off track.

On track it was competitive but well mannered. Overtakes were about 90% communicated “passing right” and all very safe, even for me as a total newbie.

I was a total stranger but received good support and encouragement from everyone spectating, and the field was big enough that there was always someone around to race but small enough that it wasn’t crowded (after it stretched out in the first lap).

Really highly recommended 🙂
