Z2 low cadence today, HR high considering the level of effort. Followed by some weights

I have a Zwifting window on Wednesday evenings around 17:45-18:30, so I've been doing a short race then over the past few weeks. I do the Alpha workout (what used to be called Leg Openers) on Wednesday mornings, which is a good way of prepping for it. The Cycling Weekly Club 10s are quite fun, but you can never tell on the ZCA where they're going to be until just before the race - this week was showing London (Box Hill finish), but updated to Bologna (up and down) some time yesterday afternoon. The races are run as mass-start TTs, with drafting turned off.

I'd done Bologna back in November - the effort's a bit different from the 8km races in that you've got to save a little bit for the push to the line, but you get a tiny bit of recovery on the descent. I got under 17 minutes on the Bologna TT section last night - had it finished at the top of the hill, I'd have been close to my PB - but really suffered on the way to the line!

In the coming weeks, DRS on Wednesday evenings might be an option for you. I'll be doing the morning slot.

Looks good, but might be a bit long/late for me - my wife and youngest son get back from swimming just after 18:30, and dinner needs to be on the table fairly pronto!

After Sundays outdoor ride I went down with a nasty cold ( man flu really but don't want to dramatise it ,but I lived ) so been off the bike for 3 days .Just done a 10 mile z2 ride and despite the legs feeling awful at the start it felt quite good by the end and surprisingly my breathing was ok . Now contemplating doing FRRs next tour which by there standard seem quite tame 😂 , It will give me something to target if the weather's bad by around the end of February

As others have experienced, I hope it isn't anything more than common cold. My cold kept coming back over several weeks, pretty much all of January.

Shimano event this morning. I was enjoying it, until I wasn't, which was lap 3 half way up the climb, dropped off the first group.

I checked out Alex's event, so knew how long the climbs would be. It helped greatly, except the message didn't quite get to the lungs on lap 3.

I was chased down by the following group, one rider bursting out of the chase pack , dropping upto 7Wkg to close the gap to me. Why he wasn't in the lead pack is a mystery, able to put that much power on the final laps.

Despite an average result, a lot of us got a boost in RS

Had a look at that. I was looking at your HR and on lap 3 it reached 170 much sooner than the first two (just before you fell off), so the fatigue was building up.

That race so much depends on who you're up against. On the first couple of climbs I was trying to stay well within the pack but not let anyone get too far ahead and break away. It's a difficult balance because if you push hard, so will others. You will split the pack, but you will also be dead on the next lap. So it's all about saving what you can. A couple of guys on our race did break off for a short while, but they always got reabsorbed.

It's a fun route, but my legs wanted a rest today

I'm still coming back re fitness from last months lingering cold. Last nights sleep saw my RHR drop down below 40, over a month since it was that low.

More endurance is needed, Garmin connect is also suggesting that re improved fitness
