That sounds lovely Andy. I really like steel frames. In fact I like all the different frame materials because they al have a different personality don’t they. But steel is kind of majestic if you know what I mean. There’s something very assured about it. Not like our royal family to be fair!

The one I’m having built is titanium though. From an American builder out of New York. It means I’m going to get hammered with import duty but the detailing looks so nice I think it’ll be ‘a lifer’ rather than just a toy 🤞.

Got some picks if your steel frame build?
I fancy a titanium frame and was looking at one from Planet X.
Is 1500g weight for the frame too heavy and that’s without the forks.

I don’t think so Mario. I’ve just checked and the one I’ve ordered will weigh around 1800g with the forks. That also includes the seat post as its part of the frame. And the headset. so maybe that’s another 300g+ or so you need to add to the Planet X to make a direct comparison. But not that far off really. I don’t think it’s a tank at that weight. I think light carbon frames are in and around 800g ish. So when you think an average cabin build is say 7 to 8.5 kg maybe(?). I don’t think you’ll find the titanium frame too porky. Maybe it’ll come down to what components you build it with.

I think Titanium and Steel frames are keepers, I've had my Titanium frame 17 years and Steel frame nearly 10 years . I've got and had some nice Carbon and Aluminium frames but they tend to get moved on to try something different.
The Steel frame isn't built up at the moment , I think I might run it as a singlespeed for easy sunny day cruising 578261

Great ride in the RWB league tonight. Cyclechat well represented in B with @mjd1988 @Girafitti @Brusgaard @<Tommy> and myself all racing.

I was dropped second time up the legsnapper unfortunately and finished mid-pack. Very pleased there was no sprint from the front group on the first lap or I’d have been dropped then!

@mjd1988 - another good ride on theway back from recovery. Finished in the group ahead of me, and I have no excuse! You’ll be pushing me out of #23 soon

I thought I took cc spoils but maybe I jumped the gun... what’s your name on zwift @Girafitti? I didn’t realise you were in the race bud.

I kind of blew my chance of finishing in the front group. I got a feather. I mean I’m pretty sure I did but now I’m not sure... I went to use it on the last climb and it was gone. Now I’m wondering if I pressed it by mistake when I was typing... or if I imagined the whole thing 🤦‍♂️ ah well. Good fun. Well done guys. A bottle of wine is a calling! 👍

Pfft.....may still be sick. Like Bram I ate too soon before starting.

Cheers @BurningLegs think I just got lucky latching to a group, we both went backwards up the legsnapper second time around I think. Really pleased I hung on the first time, proper test of 1 minute power, must check of I beat my pb for the segment.

Last time over legsnapper I crawled up (after our group caught the second group) then held your group off by less than a second I think. Horrible TT to end.

Edit; a picture paints a thousand words...and some numbers

Definitely. I bought my colnago thinking it was a frame for life to be fair. But I know exactly what you mean.

The first lap felt fast, and got a new PR which is nice to see. A full 100W less power than you, though!

I paid the price on laps two and three, but not as badly as I thought.

In hindsight I should have held back on the first lap - the two front groups came together on the flat before second time up legsnapper so my big effort was basically wasted and would have been better spent on the second lap ahead of the prime.

Yeah that was the annoying thing, the group's all came together again repeatedly! It's a great interval session though

I don’t know. I know what you’re saying. But it feels like a gamble letting a group go as a general tactic no?

Also I wonder how many of those guys who came back to us got dropped again because of the effort in getting back. Again I don’t know the answer. But it’s all in hindsight isn’t it!

My ride won’t load to Strava. Kind of annoying. It’s on companion. I’d like to see my own power number up the climbs. I kept dying at the same spot. Maybe 15 meters or so from the top. At my top form I could sustain the same number all the way up so it’d be quite handy to compare.
