Here the winter is been a weird, couple weeks ago temperature was -24°C and now last few days it's been a nearly +10°C. Snow is melt very well but no chance to go outside with road bike yet.
With the new bike?

Quick straw poll lads - who has specific cycle insurance? You know the kind, £20 a month job so it covers you for theft, accidents, legal, alien abduction etc?

Reason I ask is my mate was in a collision with a car yesterday and now there is a dispute with who was at fault. His bike needs a good £500-1000 spent on it to make it rideable (and probably some X-rays on it too) and the car will need about the same spent on it. He has had to have time off work too. That wouldn't bother me as I get sick pay but in Covid times it's probably be better to have some cover.

I'll be doing about 3-4000 miles on the roads this year so I'm thinking now might be the time to get some.

Thoughts?
I've got third party and legal cover through British Cycling membership (£35-ish per year) but don't have any other specific insurance apart from the bike being mentioned separately on the house insurance - even then I think that only covers me if it gets nicked while it's locked up at home, not on the move and they'll only pay current value, not what it would cost me to replace it with a new one. Having said that, I rarely stop when I'm out riding, so someone wanting to nick my bike from me will have to be pretty crafty to be able to do it on the move!

I’m similar I’m terms of insurance - British cycling insurance (cheaper than cycling Ireland and BC scheme is zero excess). It’s only 3rd party so I’d be scuppered if I did one of my usual self induced crashes. Ive also the legal cover thing with house insurance but I’ve never had call to test that in anger as I’m sure they’ve 101 exemptions as to why they won’t cover the one thing that I ever need it for.

@Joffey does your mate have British cycling membership? They could take it up if there’s a dispute.

Did we all exploit the lovely sunny February weather last week?
I got 4 outdoors rides in last week...and my Zwift subscription is cancelled from tomorrow 🙈 more out of my general apathy for Zwift / indoor cycling at the minute than the weather. We all know the Irish weather will turn awful as we get into March, April, summer, etc. but I’m generally enjoying get outdoors lately.

He managed to get help from Cycling UK - they allowed him to join this morning and they are taking his case no win no fee.

I think I need to look at that cycling home insurance - sounds like the cheapest option.

Not sure if this has been posted before, this looks a good series of races - Friday night isn't ideal but might try a few when life allows.....

Isn’t @mjd1988 required to attend this series to defend his fetching sprinters kit?!

Yup, already signed up in Cat D. Hopefully they won't call me back to the office before this ends...

I had been looking for ages for a series I could join on Thursday nights, but could never find one. Then I remembered that the WTRL TTTs are on that night and no-one wants to compete with those for riders, so most series moved their dates. Wednesday is too close to the Tuesday ZRL races for me, so that really only left Friday as an open day (I reserve the weekends for outdoor rides, even if the weather doesn't always co-operate!).

Then this series popped up on my radar and for once I didn't find out about it AFTER the first two rounds had already been ridden (which is what usually happens to me). Hopefully should be a good chance to get the old competitive juices flowing again.

You have Phil Fairley and Frank Reddington in there with you in D - both good lads who will be happy to team up against any sandbaggers! I recognise Ben Mong too - I think he used to be a top end D so one to watch out for.
