Anyone use a hybrid (with racing tyre) on the turbo?

Realised the old bike I'm using with its ancient pedals has probably done the damage to my foot (metataurasalgia just a couple of weeks rest should sort it) so thinking through options. Don't think I could get change pedals for the bike as it's do old and basically wrecked anyway, so options are buy a cheap road bike or see if my hybrid will do the job? No idea what cassette is on the hybrid...or even if it will fit 700c tyre

Long-term plan remains to upgrade trainer to either direct drive or smartbike but probably not going to do that for at least a few months.

Edit; also has everyone seen that the scoring system will change for zrl season 2? Extra points as far as 85th with increased intermediate points
I've used all sorts of bikes. Road ebike, gravel, hybrid and even a mountain bike. A bike is a bike. The positions change a little but power is power so whatever you put out gets read/shown by the software and propels you along. You may need to get used to selecting different gears but they still work the same.

What do people think about the new scoring in ZRL then? Whilst I think it’s good to see points down to 85th I can’t figure out what the distribution is going to be, the explanation from WTRL just says “etc” like it’s obvious but it doesn’t seem obvious to me?!

My thoughts so far:
  • It’s going to be even more important to finish with all team members (and to have a full rosta of riders - eek!)
  • Points for the fastest intermediate time seems pointless (pardon the pun). I suppose if there is a small breakaway of 2/3 riders then a chasing group behind have a double incentive to sprint, but they’d sprint anyway and will the points go to anyone outside the top ten over the line very often??

I think it'll be good. Emphasis on team strength in depth. I've seen a few guesses along the lines of 80-84 get one point 75-79 get 2 points etc (there's any number of ways they could get there).

Don't like the fastest intermediate time but again I guess it keeps things interesting for everyone? But doubt it'll change things.

It won't be perfect and will need tweaks but glad that they are experimenting and responding to feedback

My personal preference is for a gc system based on times. With intermediate points very secondary. I get that it’s much harder to do that on zwift. I think a points system is much more forgiving if one or more of team DNF for technical reasons. But I just think from a personal perspective being involved in a gc would keep me more interested

I’d say it can’t hurt to have a GC contest in the mix but the points based setup creates tighter teams which I think is good. It also encourages rotation which is healthy (assuming you have enough riders).

Maybe GC and no points fastest intermediate segment could be the sweet spot for next season 🙂

I don’t see how it’d work with a team event though. Unless you run it separately. And then if you miss one event through whatever reason your done basically aren’t you?

True about reliability, but that’s a GC race ain’t it? 🤷‍♂️

How does GC work in your current series @Spartak?

Yeah that’s true to an extent. But there just seems to be loads of different ways you can fail to finish a stage on zwift that don’t apply in the real world that are out of your control.

It would be pretty gross if a teams season went down the pan because of a single technical issue in one race.

Don’t get me wrong though. If they could make it work it would be my preference.

If you can make all the races then it's probably a good way of running a league, as long as there are differing types of stages.... Flat one, hilly one, iTT etc.

However the problem obviously lies if you can't make a stage, how are times then allocated ?

Could you have the highest placed rider on each team automatically gives the GC time for the team? I suppose that would be bad for continuity but would eliminate the concerns about one drop out ruining a series

I have a feeling they went through the pros and cons and figured points isn’t perfect but it’s much more straight forward.

Initially I didn't think I'd be able to make all 4 stages but with the later start time it's been okay. For somebody like me it's fun to compete against local club riders who like me won't win a stage but can make time gains (or losses ) on different stages.
Given my poor showing in my 'warm up' race last night I'm not sure I'll be a great help tonight, but if I can be I'll definitely try. I'll look out for you. :okay:

Are there any other riders I need to be aware of?

I'm in 36th position.
A few riders could overtake me in GC, but I should be okay on the flatter Tick Tock course.
46th place is my mate so I definitely need to keep him behind me... :okay:
