I feel like at first it started happening sporadically a month or so back. Some indoor segments still had follower and club leaderboards and some didn’t. But maybe that’s just my perception rather than reality.

If they purposefully made a decision because of overload that would make sense I guess. I’m sure both you guys know more about that side of technology than me! Maybe they could of kept the zwift verified segments if nothing else. I know they’re all still available on the desktop version but I rarely look at Strava on my lap top. Odd that it’s available on one and not the other? I think I’ll email them to ask 👍

I can understand Strava culling junk segments, especially with the rapid increase in number of indoor riders. That would result in an increase in processing and a higher server load.

I can't understand why serving processed data out to mobiles would be an issue.

I never realised that it took the Pros just 3 weeks to get a Tron bike :notworthy:

I have noticed mobile app is much slower to update now. Not glacial but enough to make me wonder if they are struggling a bit.

I think it was a good move from Strava to remove the junk segments from Zwift’s indoor worlds. In my mind though, the segments that remain should be properly supported wit fill functionality across platforms...

I have often wondered about the technical and commercial difficulties in the (nearly) real-time processing done by Strava and Zwiftpower. At least in Strava’s case they have a business model that gives them some revenue to fund it. How is Zwiftpower funded?! They will have significant costs, and I don’t even think I’ve seen adverts on their website? Not that ads could fund it alone...

There’s a ton of junk segments in the real world too. I can only assume it would be a gigantic task for Strava to cut segments themselves but i can only see it getting worse over time. Maybe they could adopt the Wikipedia model of taking on volunteers to moderate different areas.

On Zwift, I tend to only take much notice of the Zwiftinsider Verified segents and I star them. I think Starring is used to help Strava learn which segments people value, so worth doing it on rides you do often. It also ensures the segments show up on your feed rather than being in the hidden segments.

I think The Zwift insider segments are the proper ones That count most , ain’t they Tommy 😁

So I put a small spreadsheet together to capture the replies to a potential Hare and Hounds race that @bridgy suggested earlier. I was going to attach the file for people to update. I could do that still but thought it might get a bit messy, so I've just attached a copy below.

So far, I think we've got 10 interested. I've added Carl as a maybe as I'm sure he'll take part if he can, so this way we keep the option open for him.

If everyone else can let me know if you're a Yes, No or Maybe then we can finalise numbers and sort out teams.

If I've missed anyone out, please let me know.

About segments. Everyone have a personal goals and needs but for me segments are less important, i watch more how well i ride each routes and compared them for my current route record.

So, here's the current status of the Hare and Hounds responses and Survey Results.

We're up to 17 yeses and 1 maybe. Table below.

Monday and Tuesday are out. 80% No and 72.7% respectively.

Surprisingly, Friday (91.7% Yes) was the most popular option, followed by Wednesday (84.6%) and Thursday (79.2%).

And 19.00 UK time was more popular than 18.00. (69.2% v 15.3% with balance made up of either).

So, I think we can definitely go for teams. I'm thinking 3 per team? So, if everyone can make the agreed date 6 teams of 3, maybe 5 teams if the date doesn't work for some?

I'm assuming we'll group the teams from D through to A/B, with D obviously going off first.

Then we need to pick a course and agree the time gaps between teams. When @bridgy and @IrishAl set up the last one of theses rides, it was individuals rather than teams, on the Greatest London Flat course at 23.57 kms / 14.65 miles.

We could use the same course. It's generally flat with a couple of bumps in Richmond Park. Time gap at the moment for Cyclechat is fastest time 30 minutes and slowest time 43 minutes, although I think 30 - 40 minutes is more realistic now. So, the event would last about 40 minutes with the D team going off first and the A/B team with a 10 minute handicap.

Or we could do a slightly longer route such as Watopia Figure 8, which is also fairly flat but with the original KoM climb in both directions. Distance is 29.8 kms / 18.5 miles. Time gap is 43 to 56 minutes. So this option would take just under the hour.

I think we've used both of these routes in the past. I'd suggest we try the Greatest London Flat course first and if all goes well and we decide to do it again, then use Figure 8 for the next one?

So, shall we go ahead? I can propose teams and handicaps based on current replies and times. For a date maybe Friday 22 May or 15 May with Wednesday 20 May as a back-up (I thought Wednesday 13 May might be too short notice).

Anyone used bulk powders before? Just bought a 500g bag of electrolyte powder from them. At 1g per bottle it should last me a while, and about 1p per bottle so much cheaper than the SiS tablets I’ve used before now!
