Carl and Chris would only need a kilo or two max to stay competitive in C cat. They will just as fit, but have chances to do well. It will be a little demoralising to keep finishing near the back of a group. By all means go for it and see how they fair.^_^

I reckon Alan is bit happier racing B the busting a gasket trying to stay in A

The incentive for me is to lose some more weight and that will naturally push me into B - I'm still a little porky, even at 73kg, as I'm such a shorty. Another 5kg, even if my power stays the same, should see me returning 3.65 w/kg over 20 mins. Never gonna be at the front of B, but hopefully won't be dropped from the off like I am now.

The next kg i lose will push me into B for sure anyway, so i might as well go for a decent amount of weight loss

with your current power 238W, you need to be 66kg for 3.6W/kg

at your best recent power of 250W you need to weigh 69kg for 3.6W/kg

That would put you alongside Andy Long^_^

You've got age on your side-just

I need to lose some weight too - it's really slowing me down. My power numbers are alright (new FTP of 254 last night) but I'm 106kg so it pulls my w/kg down. Must stop eating pies and drinking beer!!!

Due to Marino's DQ (which is totally undeserved btw, he rode a really good race last night) I got 3rd in Cat D last night. Unfortunately despite having 3 riders I was the only one to score points  It seems a hollow bronze medal though as Marino should have had that place. Hopefully the three of us can all go again next week and get some points as I think we can push the 3 DBR lads for top of the league.

BTW, I really enjoyed that course. I thought it might be too hilly for me but I managed to get over the climbs alright and not lose too many places. I don't seem to be too bad at the rolling courses. It's just the big climbs that do me in.

Well done everyone is all the other Cats - looks like we had a decent night :okay:

My 20 minute power last night was 246, so at 68kg that's a w/kg of 3.62 .... but you're right for the whole race, at an average of 238 and 68kg weight my total w/kg would be 3.5

First things first though ... off with the extra bit of lard

Don't know did i read wrong that ZP statistic but your avg power was 238w which was 3,3w/kg and that means your weight is/was 72kg. That's what Zwiftpower says.

No, definitely 73kg in Zwift and ZP. I wish I was 72kg

238/73 = 3.26 .... ZP probably rounds up to 3.3

Just on a side note the thought of putting effort into gaining weight rather than putting effort into losing it seems bizarre to me.

Maybe that’s just me.
Much less effort to gain weight 🍪🍩🥟🍿🍫🍬🍭🌭🍔🍟🍕🥓🥞🍰🎂🥮🧁🍻

So much harder to lose it 🥦🥬🥒🌶🌽🥕🍠🍑🍒🍈🍓🍉🍎

With the extra weight training I am doing and the few extra calories I have ,I am expecting to have gained about 2kg , but according to the wife it’s in the right places and not fat , still had to put another hole in the belt😂

ZP has me at 'Almost B' too now. My 3 race ave is 3.18  Next time there are hills I'm going to go over I think :okay:

My average is 3.14 but should be ok when I update the weight

Looking at your pics recently, you don't seem to have much more weight to lose, so a bit of weight training will easily add a bit of bulk. :okay:

About 18 months ago i was racing ( only on Zwift ) and putting in some good consistent progressive intervals and also some decent 3 to 4 hr rides, I did a 20 min FTP test at that time and it was 289 , I was at 74 kg and was probably in the top 20% of the B cat races .

Just after Christmas I cut out alcohol ,bread and lot of excess sugar , I got down to 70 kg , started to get a bit more structured with the time available , some decent intervals , a few races . I haven’t done a FTP test but I reckon I’m about 265/270 ish , which is roughly the same w/kg . With the races I’ve done recently I seem to be finishing around mid field .

We went on a walking break to Lakes in mid March and the the Covid concerns came around which caused me to loose focus . Before this I decided not to race and focus on intervals, to which I felt I was responding to well , however , after the break I thought I would try doing a few races again . I really enjoy the races, although have struggled in a few . For me , I think the intervals benefit me more than the racing as you can be very specific with time /zones etc and the racing is unpredictable in demands , but more “fun “ and interactive than intervals.

To just try to sum myself up , I think I need to decide on one Zwift race plus one decent interval session or two Zwift races a week , both options including a couple of steadier rides , one being over two hours .
