Here's me trying as hard as I can to hold my place at 65th in the B cat race!

Well my start continues to improve. Matched my PB for exit from the pens, averaging 331W for the first km, and it was still hard work staying with the group. I then got really carried away as we reached the underwater section and suddenly I was in 3rd place!

Well that was never going to last and by the time we exited the underwater section I was in a group with @Brusgaard and @BurningLegs on his B cat debut.

The group whittled down a bit more and it was then me and Nick together all the way to the final KoM climb, where I just couldn't hold the power needed to stay in the group. Picked up another group before the KoM banner and we rode together all the way to the line.

Up to 67th out of 83 on the app and 55 out of 64 on Zwiftpower, so going in the right direction. Made a bit more of an effort to rest this week and had a couple of outdoor rides, so I felt a bit fresher. Something to build on I hope.

Impressive debut by Nick coming in 50th. He took a minute out of me from the KoM to the finish, which just shows how important it was to hold that group on the last climb.

Well done to Andy and Martin for strong rides in 41st and 37th. Hope Steen was feeling ok. He dropped off after being in the group with Nick and rolled over with the back group.

Well done tonight chaps 👍

I guess this league all the categories start together?

Or maybe you’re talking about people who should be in different categories?
There seems to be quite a few who deliberately sandbag, spoiling the dynamics of the race

Still no placing for me in cat D does anybody know what’s going on
It looks like ZwiftPower had you down as a C cat rider pre-race.

Because the only race you've done in the last 90 days was last week's DBR ride, and you got 2.56 w/kg in that, you had no other recent results to average you out to below 2.5, therefore you wouldn't qualify for D cat any more.

Enter two more (short) races at some point this week and don't take them too seriously. As long as you come in sub 2.47-ish, that will bring your average back down below 2.5, making you eligible for next week's D cat race again.

Nick is a climber .... that course would have suited him :okay:

Great progress Del. When I finally get into B I'm going to have some hard working to get anywhere near you guys :notworthy:

A cat c rider with an ftp @ 216 that don’t make any sense to me!
Zwift use W/kg for their categories. It works pretty well overall. I can run with B cats on the flat, but get blown out on anything hilly, my ranking is currently mid C

Do a couple of longer races, that should pull your average down

A great write up there @Del C. I was disappointed to see you leave our little group but I was surprised the group created such a gap on you in a relatively short period!

In terms of my B cat debut, I got into the front group from the pen but was one of approx 6 spat out after about 6-7Km I think.

According to Zwiftpower I averaged 3.5W/KG for the event so B seems a fair place for me to ride. I need to try and improve my five minute power to stick with that front group off the line.

Cracking results in C Cat so well done there guys!

Thanks for the explanation I will bear it in mind about doing some more races and deliberately slow them down to get cat D status.
My time would have got me third from last place in cat c
I think my brief spell in e racing could be over.
I’m a rider not a racer 😀

For all the upgrading happening my numbers have been fairly static- although static in a way that means I'm at the pointy end of c more often than not. I do tend to be the only person supertucking every descent but doubt that makes a big difference.

Would love to be in the b's this year at some point, even if I'm dropped at the start of every race.

The supertucking must be working and saving you a little extra for on the flats😀

I reckon if you have the time to put in a bit of work over the summer you’ll definitely get there sooner rather than later. Sometimes it doesn’t happen slowly but rather you get a noticeable jump. It just depends how much commitment you can give it. Racing a couple of times a week with some recovery rides in between I think normally makes the difference.

If you're on the margins of another category. Look at this way, boxers, Judo, weightlifters change categories by adding or losing weight to make them competitive in the other class. Nothing wrong with doing the same for cycling
