Is anyone using a wrist HR device like the fitbit or Whoop or Garmin watchy thingy me bobby? Do you find them useful or a pain to use and not worth the hassle?

I have an Apple Watch. I don’t like wearing a watch when I’m on the bike. When I first got it I guess I used to check my pulse a lot more. Resting pulse, sleep patterns etc. After a while I think the novelty kind of wears off. I always figured they’d be much more useful for runners rather than cyclists.

I use a Fitbit watch. To be honest, I only really use it to give me my Resting Heart Rate (and the time).
It does seem a chunk of money to check resting HR. I like the idea of Whoop which 'allegedly' analyses HRV heart rate variations to build a profile of stress or over-trained for the user. Trouble is I'm not paying $30 per month!

Snap!

This is precisely the same 'issue' I have.

4 bikes and 2 sets of shoes. You've never considered swapping all your pedals and changing both pairs of shoes to Look pedals/cleats?

I much prefer shimano to look pedals. Talking specifically about look carbon blade peddles they just don’t go back to vertical when you unclip so it can be hit and miss clipping back in. and the cleats seem to wear out faster too. The pedals also degrade a lot quicker. Shimano are slightly heavier but work much better and last forever basically. I’d find it a tough sell moving exclusively to look pedals.

Having said all that... I have bought the newest look pedals . Look carbon blade with a titanium spindle and ceramic speed bearing. The blasted covid has stopped me testing them out but they do seem to go back to verticle every time.

In @IrishAl ’s case he clearly needs to man up and buy (at least) another pair of shoes. 2 pairs! Tut tut :headshake:.

Hey @<Tommy> why don't you and @bridgy join us on the DBR Wahoo race tonight at 6.15. It is the Watopia Figure 8 which would suit you Watt Monsters. You can help get us on the podium placings

I have a knock off of the wahoo arm/wrist HRM. , about £35. It’s spot on and I use in preference to the Garmin and also a Suunto Spartan I was given as a gift.
I mainly use to keep an eye on recovery.

CooSpo Heart Rate Monitors Armband Optical Heart Rate Sensor Bluetooth 4.0 ANT+ for REVOOLA Amazon product ASIN B07HHZQ85YView: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07HHZQ85Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_wucLEbRFJ3PRG

Do you use it instead of a chest strap? Is it accurate at high BPM (not that I go very high  )?

I know it’s early days @Norry1 but the table there looks like there are only four teams going for it in B!

I do now through choice. I compared for a couple of rides with Garmin and close enough. I barely notice when riding with it on my upper arm. Recorded a 176 high A few days back so all seems fine. I do have pretty puny arms though so it may be easier to read the pulse 😁

I’m going to race tomorrow. I can’t commit to a league at the moment I’m afraid. But I’ll join races if I can make it work.

As always good luck tonight chaps!

I use one of these:

And I much prefer it to the chest straps. It always pairs straight away and I forget it’s there. Just got to remember to charge it between races. I don’t think I paid anything near that much for it though!
