I didn’t plan to do the whole course but lee dropped back from the front group to join me and we spun round together after that. Neither of us seemed in the mood to race which was actually just what I needed tonight so perfect.

weirdly finishing around the same position as I did in the first race even though we were never really on full gas and mostly in a small group. Just shows how much these big field races can vary I guess.

Pleasure as always whippet 👍👍

well done everyone who got that done tonight 💪
Great, so you and Lee were just gently pootling around together and still beat me by 2-3 minutes :B). And @Milzy absolutely destroyed me on the final hill (possibly not that surprising as he's 12 kilos lighter though!)

Tommy, your normalised power was 295 watts for over an hour so if that felt like you weren't going full gas then you're in pretty good form I'd say (especially with a dodgy knee :okay:)

Current mood - :surrender:

the cc ventoux trip I’ve organised this summer. 11/12 places in the main house are filled. So one space left. It would be great to fill that last spot it really would. Everyone is welcome of course, and just for the record it’s never a race on these trips and it doesn’t turn into one. Everyone goes at their own pace and it really is just a lot of fun.

I would love to do a trip like that, but my wife and I are expecting a second baby in the last week of July so doubt it will work out for me. Unless the trip happens to be early summer e.g June???

1.13.28 - delighted with that

Didn't think I would enjoy that course, and that's probably the wrong word for that experience, but kept thinking I was going to burn out but managed to hold it together. Was with Dean for a long time clawing onto the back of a group (me, not him!) before he flew uphill but looking at the time I didn't actually lose as much as I usually lose. Not sure if it's my "pescetarian damp January" (bit half arsed but better than nothing) or if I've finally got over a series of colds.

I'm also under my zwift weight for the first time in a good while! Not going to change it until I've kept it there for a week or two because I definitely didn't increase it over Christmas and I definitely wasn't 85kg I fear!

Great to have some more new people for the league. I think zpower on a dumb trainer is fine as long as you aren't putting out silly numbers, and it's a great way to get hooked.
Yeah you made work really hard, on the climb I had to do something to put in some distance between us so that's why I digged in with a spurt of power.
I did think you was going to pull something out of the bag in the final few miles but thankfully you didn't.

I'm not doing THAT stage again
Looks similar to Stage 1 in many ways - similar time, laps with a little lump per lap, and a final climb. Difference is the climb in Stage 1 (for me) was about 16 minutes, but my PB on the stage 2 climb is 26 minutes .... so a lot of hard climbing to come this afternoon :training:

I estimate, even if I hit my PBs for the 3 laps, plus a near PB on the climb, then I'm looking at 1hr 13 mins. Drafting should help me get a good time, but I can't see me getting near you, Brendan and Michael on this stage. I'll be happy with anything near 1:14 :okay:

It will Most likely be a Sunday morning attempt for stage 2 for me with the benefit of times on the board to pace against :becool:

I think it’s fair to say the door has been left wide open for you mate

Thanks mate that’s nice of you to say. To be honest I do feel very good at the moment like I’m in good form. For the first time since I quit smoking I feel like I can get as much power from my lungs as my legs if that makes sense. But also maybe my good form has coincided with you and lee having a bit of patchy form

I noticed my power was high too. Not as high as the last race which I think must be my highest ever for an hour. I think last night I was much more steady. I didn’t mind letting the front group go and it meant I was never really pushing at my limit. Just under it I guess. I’ve been quietly focussed on a few little things recently so hopefully I still have a little more space for improvement. Who knows...

My knee didn’t really bother me too much either. I couldn’t ride into work today because it’s got a lot stiffer through the night but doing the ride and popping a few ibuprofen probably prolonged the swelling a bit.

My last climb in stage 1 took from me over 5min longer than my PR. My PR in Innsbruck KOM is bit over 27min, sooo, how it goes today. I am expecting 35min. I will probably set trainer difficult about 70%, which was a same as stage 1.

norry has the dates right. ‘Probably’ wouldn’t go down too well with the better half I’d imagine :ninja:

More importantly congrats on the soon to be new arrival! 👍👍. There’ll be other trips and I’ll always post them up here and in the meet ups thread.

Trainer at 100% for me. Chain in the big ring in the front (still not got that fixed yet!) and will grind up the final mountain

My recollection of the Innsbruck climb is that it does have some 'flatter' sections where drafting may be a positive factor. So long as you have riders around you, you may get a slight speed boost. Of course, the downside of riders in front of you is the damned sticky draft .... It will be a case of head down, keep the pedals turning, and working hard. If I hit the start of the climb with 45-46 mins on the clock I should be on for an OK time, any later and I'm going to have to work really hard on the climb and set a PB

Main reason why i set my trainer difficulty to 70% is that i try to save and leave some energy to my night shift, which start today.

What i did try last night and it clearly worked for me was to not try and get sucked into a group where i was hanging on, as i knew the climb was coming i didn't see the point in bordering into the red for a minute or so gain in getting to the climb and being fooked when i got there, bigger picture was not to loose on the climb for me so getting there and having some left in the tank. As they say I wouldnt have won on the climb but could have definitely lost on it. Looking back now at my ride i was 240w for the ride and my FTP is 246 so well happy.
