A group of 5 came in over another minute behind. Adam and I rode together from the start and were able to pull in Del, Brendan and Steen en route and the group put up a sprint of sorts for the middle placings.

A bit funny, that I came in last of that 5 man group timewise, as I was the first (of all) riders to pass the start banner, and the first of the 5 to pass the end banner. The segment apparently does not start or end right at the banners.

That's interesting! I thought I was first across the end banner (or is that not the same as the finish line?). No idea about the start banner (I wasn't looking out for that!).

I'll take a look at your video and see what I need to look out for.

I think it might be down to the internal clock/timings on your/others PC's - the reason why Zwiftpower have spent so much time and effort on directly verifying timings direct fro the zwift server and not from individual PC's timings - and the reason why timings for things like Tour De Zwift sometimes varied by a few seconds from what was shown on screen and what was recorded by ZP. Bit annoying for you though Steen - hopefully the luck will run the other way for you on another stage

Steen was first through the official start/finish banner (about 51:30 on his video) which is where the Strava segment times are meant taken from. The Meetup finish line was a few hundred metres later which you went through first. Meetup start and finish will always be a few hundred metres either side of the official start/finish banners which are used for "Zwift Insider verified" strava segments.

Yeah I know that in the big races/rides with 1000s of participants the time shown on screen is not the same as on ZP. The same thing happens on Bkool sometimes, so not a Zwift only problem per se.

It just doesn't make any sense doing a full-on sprint, when you may be 5 seconds behind on the segment after the race.
I was lucky that @peterob wasn't aware that the timing would (well, should) be at the official finish banner. He might have used that Aero PU earlier, had he known.

Yeah really struggling mate! Weeks off the bike with hyperchondriac’s wrist and then come 2nd fastest in the first race of the season. I’ve always said you were a nob, and this just reinforces that belief.

I mean obviously when I said it was good to see some old faces I wasn’t talking about everyone
🖕.

And for the record I’m fairly confident there’s a bedding in period before people really get to know me, when they don’t think I’m a nob. So have another one on me for luck 🖕!

No, I've just worked out what happened - if you look at the strava flyby for you and Pete, you went past the start banner well before him, but he was closer to you when you went back past it at the end. So because he started the segment (for example) 10 seconds behind you, but finished (for example) only 5 seconds behind you, he would have actually completed the segment between the start and finish 5 seconds quicker.

Only way to solve this is for us to do a rolling start and try and pass the start banner as a group and only start racing at that point. Happy to give this a try in future races - will need everyone to pay attention to the rules though, which could be tricky...

I think it’s worth a try. Basically if you try and get a head start you’re at a disadvantage. So it could encourage us all to stay together? Dunno...

It could end up like a sprint race on the track where everyone starts track standing so they don’t cross the line first!

Ah yes, that makes sense. :okay: I don't think there is any 100% solution to the problem, as us all hitting the line in the same second is impossible.

Well it'll only really matter if there's only 5 seconds or so between you at the end of the full league - and your sprint finish wasn't totally wasted as it would still have shaved a few seconds off your overall time

FTP done, pretty much as expected 50W down on best power. Me the brother-in-law are starting Trainer Road together in preparation for Tenerife in the New year.

In the coming weeks Ill try convince him to join in a Zwift race-He might just do it having seen one of his fellow club mates on Zwift yesterday whilst I was showing the Zwift setup to him

Let's hope so. I could probably have gone a bit faster in the sprint, but as the other didn't seem to really sprint at that time, I saw no need to. :banghead:

I will definately not be the first to cross the start line next Tuesday, however! ^_^
