I also have an arm strap one which TB recommended. For me this is the best of the best for indoor training. It’s super dependable, rechargeable. Very comfortable to the point you don’t know it’s there. Can’t remembwr what brand it is... @theboxers ?

For outdoor riding the wahoo is king because the battery lasts forever.
Schosche Rhythm+ or the new one Rhythm24. Not super cheap, but they just work from my experience.

The Wahoo Tickr range are good as well.

Both of these are Ant+ and BTLE

My Garmin Premium HR strap has stopped working. I'm assuming the battery needs replacing, but I can't get the unit open as the tiny screws are too tight. I've snapped one screwdriver already. I tried the 2nd one of these I have (long story) and I can't move the screws on that either.

So, think I'll get a new one that doesn't have this issue. Any recommendations for a HR Cheststrap?

If I were in the market, I would consider the 4iiii Viiiiva one, which bridges ANT+ signals to Bluetooth. This would particularly useful if using an Apple TV or other Bluetooth only device with older (Garmin) ANT+ only sensors (speed / cadence etc.).

Can you still get the older Garmin HR Strap with the coin slot ? Mine has been faultless in the last 10 years. May have changed the battery once ?

Can you put up a picture of the screws?

It’s probable you’re using the wrong sized screwdriver head if your rounding it off.

The popular choice for hr straps is the wahoo offering which I have and is very dependable. Works with Bluetooth and ant+.

I have just seen a DC Rainmaker review and it seems it is a common problem that the screws seize up.

Screwdriver need to be Phillips #0, SKU: 26105. That is from Garmin support page. Little bit bigger or smaller or any kind of difference and head gets rounded. I don't know why Garmin didn't design the casing that you can open with coin.

I can imagine with all the sweat that builds up it could easily seize. But I’d say using the right driver head would turn it. Unfortunately being so small as soon as you use the wrong head it’ll round it off for sure.
But I’m not trying to talk you out of buying something new, shiny, and for a short time less sweaty!

I got a decent fit - so good the screwdriver bent in half!

Just ordered the Wahoo chest strap. Don't want to spend too much - may look at Whoop soon.

I’ll have to start calling you Uri Geller. What was the shaft made out of, rubber?

You won’t go wrong with the wahoo. I made the same upgrade a couple of years ago and it works just fine. Plus the battery cover comes off with a coin. So unless you can bend a 10 pence piece you’ll be fine ^_^
