a box in bottom left corner pops up asking to join about 10 mins before start - if you dont press join , 4 or 5 mins before start it takes you there anyway

The join box for me is 4 mins usually. I click on it a cool down waiting for the start. Tommy you really need 20 mins before the event to warm up and receive invite so not rushing

It just seemed you had more in Box to give but seemed to be waiting for me.

I couldn't see how far the others had gone so wasn't sure we could catch them - also, as I hadn't climbed before on the NEO i wanted to hold something back as I wasn't sure how Box would go. In hindsight I could have pushed a little more on the flats as I was quite strong on Box. Once I've fettled with the gears and they stop slipping and I can stand on the hills I'll have a bit more to give

I had a bit but not much! I knew we couldn’t catch the fast boys but it’s a race and no point not getting as close to them as we possibly can! Steen and Andy weren’t that far ahead and had benefitted from being in a faster draft. They are in my sights for the future :okay:

Yeah I don’t know. Something’s gone wrong. Strava says I did about 25 mins warm up before the event. I did get the box asking if I wanted to join the event, the same as you would in a race. And just like a race I ignored it thinking I’d join nearer the time. But then I realised there was only a few minutes left and the option to join was gone. I checked the companion app to see if I was still registered and I was. Dunno... it’s not the end of the world.
I think the race played out the way I expected it to pretty much anyway and I’m pleased about the progress I’m making. But it would of been nice to be on the scoreboard and compare times and all that.

Zwift-the spoke and saddle to the broom wagon:

Cyclechat completely owning this particular leader board today from nearly 900 riders. Not too shabby at all boys

Which draft are you referring to, the around 6 minutes at the start? From then on it was just Dean, Michael and me, with me trying to make a break for it. I did get a 10 second gap, but soon realized that I would never get closer to the front group (?) and Dean would demolish me on the climb anyway. So I just waited for them to catch up and ride together to the bottom of Box Hill, where Dean as expected shot off like a bullet and I just tried to keep a steady pace going up.

You get a draft benefit if you ride with anyone. I got it with Whorty. When he could keep up  ( it was that extra sausage ) The more riders riding together the bigger the draft.
If you ride much of it alone then kudos to you:thumbsup:

It's hard not to find a bit of draft, when the road is filled with other riders, so I suspect all of us was in some sort of draft most of the time on the flats?

You should try a Bkool Chain Gang race these days, not much draft there if you get dropped from the front.

Being heavier and taller, not much draft was had behind Dean anyway.

Here are our relative positions in the race and a time marker at the bottom of Box. Paul kept surging trying, ,we now know to break Lee or wear him out. I kept appearing on the front I was trying to be more even powered. Me and Lee were dropped a little, but we managed to pull back onto the front chaps- a little bit of round robin by accident. The pace was very high upto the Box, where those nasty fast lightweights left me:cursing:

I was thinking when I was doing those surges of pace that anyone watching but unaware we were racing would think I was the worst group ride leader ever!
