I could tell I wasn't fit for racing tonight so did the pack ride and kom after party great ride some nice tempo riding and smashed my pb for the volcano climb at 8.39 and I was on my 42/53 front and 26/11 rear .
Should have joined the KISS race :-) ~175 participating today and a bit longer than most. The pack I rode with started with just 3 of us, but we kept gobbling up singles, pairs and small groups. I can only recall a couple going off the front to join a small group up the road, which we later caught. It was a testament to the power of a large group.

Instead of an acceleration the last lap, things seemed to go into a bit of a lull, I wasn't even pushing hard and kept going off the front of the pack, so I went with it a bit and pushed the pace up a bit hoping we'd maybe drop a few out of the remaining 15 or so riders left or one of the stronger riders would join me. Vietch seemed like he might be game a couple times, but never took a pull himself. The repeated itself a few times over the last lap.

One rider jammed hard with about a mile to go, but was out of gas way too early. I tried to keep pace with the intent to hit the gas at around a quarter mile to go, which I did. My screen showed me pull ahead of the group well before the line and stay there, but I'll wait to see what shows up on zwiftpower.

I think I saw Martin & Simon at the start -- they joined faster groups and finished well ahead of me.

Started really badly, was fscking around with spotify when the banner dropped and was the last person to get started I think. Passed a lot of D riders fairly quickly and caught up with a C group containing I think @JLaw, but there was another C group a little over half a minute up the road, and it was distancing my current group. I tried a couple of accelerations off the front to try to get the group to catch them, but they weren't biting, so I pushed off and caught the second group.

Stayed with them and rolled up a lot of Cs and quite a few Bs as well, but the group was mostly holding the same size with only one or two people contributing. After the final lap banner, one other guy, wayne mayer went off the front, and I tried to hold with him, but realised we were both pushing 4.5w/kg+ and I didn't want to get DQd, so I slowed to about 2.7w/kg just enough to keep off the front of the chase group. In the end it didn't matter as I ended up going above the w/kh limit.

Need to work on getting with the front groups, as I have to push too hard to catch up forward groups, and end up going over the limit. Still, only my third race overall.

Me too, but I hope to have my rowing machine up and running (rowing) tomorrow and not sure how daily 5k's will affect the cycling.

Probably not too much, I do a 40km a day commute and once you get used to that base level it's just normal so doesn't seem to affect things too much.

Awesome race with over 50 starters in the C group. A very quick start especially considering it was a 31 mile race.

I've learned to push hard enough to stay with the front group now and probably about 20 riders made the first selection. I lost the group twice and had to push stupid watts to catch them and then desperately hang on while I got my breath back. This was progress as I've given up a couple of times before when that happened.

A couple of riders broke away on the last lap and beat the next group by just under 40 seconds. I was in that next group. I read the distance to go wrongly and played my power-up joker too early and got passed by 2-3 riders eventually finishing 4th of 5 in that group and 6th overall.

My best hour power ever at 239W so pretty pleased. Took me a few minutes to recover after that final sprint

Didn't see much of Jeff but good to see he finished 11th.

Since breaking my spine, my rides had got worse and worse, on Zwift and in real life - gave up for a while. Got some meds sorted that I was on before the accident and I've felt OK to start again - I'm getting better. I was nearly giving up until this week.

Be good to see you on Zwift. What is your Zwift name so we can give you a Ride On?

if you go over the w/kg for the group and get dqd does your result still get saved ? i ask as i have only done one race and although i was waaaay back , i had to push harder to keep up due to lack of weight then the result didnt save - it went to zwiftpower but not in results and didnt go strava at all !

That's gonna give you a good base fitness.
Yeah, it's more impact on unused muscles and soreness. Being a wimp I worry about these things ^_^

What rower have you got Bob? Daughter has got the concept, we have a simulator(I suppose like zwift) called RowPro to train with.

I cant use it due to the angle it puts my foot in(did I tell you about my ankle?) ^_^
