Forecast was ‘horrific’ here from 9am on (Actually pretty nice out there now 🤷‍♂️) - so even on a Sunday in the Hols: me and my girl set out fairly early at 6.30am to beat the Weather…..

We walked past the magnificent St Margaret’s Church:

Why bed flowers in - when being a Coastal Town: you can plant them in an old Boat ?

IMG_7411.jpeg

Not much happening at the Train Station:

IMG_7412.jpeg

Or up the High Street !!

IMG_7415.jpeg

The more Historic old part of the Town centre - known as the Triangle now - still has old advertising from the mid 1800’s in plain view:

IMG_7419.jpeg

We walked past one of many of ‘The Scores’:

On our way to catch sunrise at the Beach at Gunton. Which we timed perfectly 👌

Back through the dunes and woods:

Lovely walk complete. And she’ll rest well I bet 😎

After trying to come to an abrupt halt at the Beach yesterday - and tumbling down the sands after her paws dug in: I was sure Macy the Cairn Terrier had ‘hurt’ her front left paw. I saw a tiny little bit of hobbling yesterday. So was ready for a short walk around the block this Morning. Lo and behold 10 minutes in it was clear she’d shaken it off already. So hence not the best of scenery today I’m afraid……..

Around the perimeter of Gunton Hall we walked:

The light started to appear as we headed away and into the ‘Heart’ 🤣 of Gunton Village:

Where we came across the Christmas tree the local Parish have put up on the Green:

IMG_7463.jpeg

And of course another Boat Hull (It’s a Lowestoft thing I tell you) used as a planter - in the same location.

IMG_7465.jpeg

Back home we looped. And past this unusual ‘addition’ - pretty much now right in the middle of the local estate:

IMG_7466.jpeg

6.01 enjoyable miles. And many mince pies, cheese boards and Festive treats ‘earned’ 😁

An early Morning and misty adventure into Oulton Broad. Or the gateway to the Broads as it’s known:

Me and Macy came in past the quaint little Train Station complete with White picket fence:

Saw some of the rapidly falling jetty on the East side:

There’s 7 (?) of these [Different] birds painted on buildings around the Town:

IMG_7477.jpeg

Cripes Dad……. I didn’t realise we were here ! 🐶

IMG_7476.jpeg

A fairly magnificent Christmas Tree has been erected by the side of the Broad:

Captured the lock-gate between river and sea entrance on our way out……..

IMG_7482.jpeg

6.01 miles exactly (again) amazingly enough. Misty miles, very mild miles. And very enjoyable Holiday walking miles 😁

MERRY CHRISTMAS CC’ers 🤶🌲☃️

Christmas Day or not. We both need a walk ! 🐶

*Unsurprisingly very quiet out. Bar the sounds of excited children opening presents, a few people I spied / heard through kitchen windows preparing for their day. And a random guy emptying rubbish in his outside bin. Who I ‘caught’ solely in his pants 🤣🤣🤣

Also - amazingly: met a lady at the Beach with her 13 week old Cairn Terrier (Same as Lady Macy). Getting quite a rare breed. The lady said it was only its second day outside. Looked like it was confidently taking the world and the North Sea in its stride…..

6.01 miles [3rd day running on completely different routes 😳] we both really enjoyed 😁

As well as my brain getting foggier. The weather seems to be too (And cold with it). Is Global warming a thing of the past 🙄

Yesterday’s shorter dog walk was hard work. Xmas excess, under the weather ? I can’t tell you. It was good to wake up feeling A1 this Morning though. So accompanied by an equally eager pup - we set off on a slightly longer than normal walk.

Through Lowestoft Cemetary we walked 😳

IMG_7582.jpeg

Past the Football club ⚽️

IMG_7586.jpeg

Couldn’t work out if this was a going concern or had shut down ? **Just a sign of the Fishing Heritage of Lowestoft’s demise I’m afraid…..

IMG_7592.jpeg

Slowed down and looked into the window of my local, excellent and much supported LBS 😍

IMG_7596.jpeg

Took in some of the ‘Herring Trail’; giving glimpses of the Towns Fishing heritage……

IMG_7598.jpeg

I’m guessing some fallen Hero’s families rightfully remembered them this Christmas:

IMG_7600.jpeg

Macy got super excited the moment she saw the Beach 😍

IMG_7602.jpeg

Then a different route back through the ‘woods’:

IMG_7608.jpeg

And home we arrived after 7.01 miles of damp fun !

This Morning ‘we’ did a circumnavigation of Lowestoft - the aim: to take in all 3 River Crossings (Bridges). The newest only opening in the last few months. And known locally as “The 3rd Crossing’ for obvious reasons……..🙄

1./ Bridge over the corner of Oulton Broad. With ‘us’ standing on the Bridge itself. And the topside of the counterweight of the pedestrian footbridge over the ‘lock’ - in the background:

IMG_7622.jpeg

2./ The New £145 million Gull Wing Bridge. Which after 30 years of lobbying for, much criticism of its final location - does appear to have eased congestion in the Town greatly 🙏

IMG_7628.jpeg

3./ The onto our final conquest…..The original Lowestoft Town centre crossing: The Bascule Bridge. The centre section of which was lowered into place the year I was born - 1971. And effectively joins the North and South halves of the Town together……

IMG_7634.jpeg

8 and a bit miles. One shattered dog. And I must say - even my legs are feeling it a bit too 😉

IMG_7644.jpeg

Also means I’ve just hit my modest target of 1200 walking miles for the Year. Ok considering I (we) didn’t really start until mid March:

You are a quick walker.

I am a bit of a dawdler tbh. Usually 3-3.2mph. Can do more over long distance only if I put my mind to it.

High mountain walking is much slower at around 2.1mph.

Yes - I do like to really get a stomp on ! ‘Limited’ by the dog too (Now). Amongst that is stopping to let her sniff of course……

Last year - pre dog - I had many walks of around 10 miles where I average 4.5mph’ish. Once was 4.75mph I think. Pretty much as quick as I can go and actually be walking - not getting airborne and then impacting my knees on return to Earth 🤣

But generally the terrain I use is flat / tarmac / possibly nothing like you of course. If I lived in the Dales / Lake District / Yorkshire etc…… I’d love to regularly tackle tougher routes.

We did a bit more of the official coastal walk from Fingerinhoe to the Strood in Essex. Did not see a lot of the coast due to being blocked from the coast by a military firing range and a nature reserve.
the views were not much so here is a random peacock perched on a residential house fence and a old kettle in the woods, a nice tree and a church. also we had to turn back as we came across a sign that said path is closed whilst red flags are up on the firing range. The flags were up and people were firing so we decided that we did not fancy chancing being shot.
