this is one of the things that annoys me most about riding the geared bike in this muck, it gets in everywhere and the mechs are a bugger to clean quickly, the thing will need stripping cleaning and then regreasing very soon, pain in the arse. With the fixed its dead easy, soapy sponge down for the bike, maybe some degreser on the chain, relube then you're good to go.

I notice a load of rust all over the mech and chain the other day, was mortified, made a closer inspection and wiped it off, seems this muck off the roads contains allot of iron filings.

Snap! That's why my chain did not feel quite oiled then! It had that rusty look as well and I was forced to oil it en route.
I wouldnt have thought putting chain lube over road cack would be much use, I hope you made some attempt to clean it first

Half day today, so 28 miles this afternoon ;)
Started bright and 5 degrees, soon got hot and shed some layers . Half way it got misty, cloudy and noticeably colder. Layers back on
Saw 2 red kite and plenty of birds out there, farmands teeming with em. Countryside roads are very very dirty

My usual loop from Widnes, over the bridge to Runcorn. Through Runcorn to Sutton Weaver, Preston Brook, Daresbury, Walton, Moore and swing into Warrington. Through Warrington, Sankey, Penketh and then back home to sunny Widnes. 21.5 mile round trip and home in time for tea and medals.
Weather not too bad but a bit cold. Into a headwind going out which blew me home on the back nine.

Sounds nice the only ride other than my commute that I got in was a quick visit to a lbs, only a couple of miles  In addition to what I went for I ended a new long sleeve Giordana top reduced in their sale.

22 miles in to work this morning, only took one wrong road, managed it in 1hr 52 mins. Plenty of scope for improvement, I free wheel a lot, too knackered from pedalling up the hills to pedal down as well:biggrin:

Spoke to local guy at my office and one of the roads I'm meant to take is mis labelled on google maps.

20.25 miles coming home, 1hr 48mins, serious energy depletion over last 7 miles, and this is definitely more up than down. So need to sort out my eatng, today no breakfast, light lunch and nothing til I got home. Need to eat in afternoon before cycling home and maybe even a snack en route.

Still enjoyed it overall and took a full 37 mins off my first commute time from last week. Going to try for tomorrow as well so my first 2 days in a rowxx(
