Normal 13 mile trek for me yesterday while getting use to the clipless pedals, of which around half are upgrade and include a few nasty steep bits, topped the longest one which is at the 12 mile mark without changing gear for the first time I think (smallest front chainring, and fourth gear on the rear, ie three to fall back on if needed). Felt even better tonight when I saw a bike light going very slowly up it and then realised it was being walked up the hill.

8 miles in Delamere forest on a beautiful autumnal day which I wasn't able to capture properly on the phone

Yeah, that's the dog, up to his neck in stinky water. I made sure I was on the bike away from him before he shook it off!

Okay, so in my wisdom, I decided a short ride to the local woods would be fun, as I couldn't manage my usual route today.
2 ½ miles felt like 22 ½ !!! My knee didn't like it so I won't be doing that again until maybe next summer!
The semi's just about coped and I could feel the bike sliding about a bit (that was fun though!)

Here's the woods, which are right on my doorstep

Half way up - looking back down the hill (any excuse to stop!)

A like for the report. Shame about the knee hurting though  I've seen a few reports of hurt knees recently (plus I pulled mine).

I did about 10 miles offroad on my hybrid - a bit rouger than my normal towpath , and knees would not get back to normal. Took a week off, then due to family problems could not cycle so much (still can't) but it has come good in the end.
Next weekend will be a test 27 miles of hilly but not awful terrain, more hills than normally do in one go

My knees aren't good anyway.
I'm hoping that things improve a bit as the weight comes off....so by next summer I can tackle some gentle MTB'ing again as I used to love it!
If not, I still have the cycle tracks and towpaths so I win, either way

Just a fifteen mile pootle into town and back, with a fantastic sunset to see me home. Lots of lovely drivers out and about this afternoon - thought I was going to sit on the main road for hours waiting for a gap so I could turn right but someone stopped and let me through. :becool:. A few miles later, on a country lane wide enough for a bike and a car to pass one another comfortably, someone coming the opposite direction pulled over and waited for me, as did someone else soon after. Both responded to my grin and wave of thanks with smiles of their own. :becool: And then when I pulled into a gateway to let the small truck following me overtake (the road had shrunk to claustrophobic proportions by this time), the driver waved and gave me the thumbs up. Even back on the busy roads, the cars overtook properly - even the ones blasting past at way over the national speed limit. :becool:

Three mates & I went for a chilly ride around Wakerley Woods today.. First time this year that ive had to crack ice on the puddles on the way through!
Some of the puddles were quite deep
IMG_0546.JPG

And a bit muddy if you put a foot down!

IMG_0543.JPG

We only did about 9 miles, but it seemd more paddling through that lot.. Great fun though, and a few slippery moments to keep the mind focused.
Not all the route was dodgy though..

A couple of the slopes had serious roots on them and were tricky to get up, still, it all added to the enjoyment of the day.

Tomorrow I must give the bike a wipe over..... lol

Still, coffee & cake was our reward!

I did my now usual 30 laps round my local park(18 miles). Ok it's boring but i'm not far from home should i have a puncture. I topped it off with a 10 mile spin over the hills then back home before dark.
The low sun was very bad though. On more than one occasion i was cringing when traffic approached, hearing stories of cyclists being wiped out by "The sun affected my vision,i didn't see him till it was too late)ones in court.
