Liverpool evening post, update.A nuclear attack on Birkenhead today wiped out most of the area, officials say it will take years to rebuild at a cost of £10.

One interesting thing while on the Thames path, I saw the aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious making her way up the river towards London.

Another ship you may have seen (or at least her mast!) is the Radio Caroline ship, (Ross Revenge) now moored at Tilbury Docks, after being finally silenced back in 1990. A new mast has just been completed for when she makes her break for the freedom of the high seas again and at last we get a decent music radio station back Ofcon allow a pathetic one month local AM licence.

Back in the '60's courting couples would drive to the coast and listen to Caroline while doing what courting couples in dark cars do. At some point the DJ would call on people to switch on their headlights. It was great to see the whole coast as far as you could see all lit up like a Christmas tree.

Yesterdays ride took me through Bretton Sculpture park, I have never been a big fan of sculpture but some people have interesting ideas of what passes for art.

I usually load my routes to Bikemap.net to share with others but they have changed their site ( to improve it !) and in the process they have made it unusable, so I tried Strava and to my surprise I got a 1st place on 1 of the sections, I could become addicted.

I've been trying to get 100 miles per week in, to make up for the winter mileage deficit. Unfortunately I've been a bit ill this week, so only managed a paltry 30 miles of commuting. So I went out at teatime last night and did 40 miles, and I got up early this morning for a wet & windy 30 miler. Averaged 17.2mph on both rides, though they were pretty flat.

Mission accomplished! Beers and takeaway tonight.

This morning I snatched a commando-style 10 miler with two big hills in a 35 minute window between rain storms. That's probably my lot for the weekend as it's lashing down now.

Slept in this morning so missed the club run. Did just over 40 miles on my lonesome on the winter(!) bike. It was wet, windy, miserable and cold (4C at one point :cold:) Forecast for tomorrow is a bit better
