21 Miles yesterday, and 33 miles today. The left foot is behaving itself at last, so lets hope I'm properly back in the saddle now. :wahhey:

I was up at 04:30 and on the back at 05:00 before I had time to reconsider and go back to bed . I went looking for nice cycle routes near where I live and discovered hills aren't kind to the legs...so I made a thread about it (here)

Sometimes you have to remind yourself, the town centre isnt a F1 circuit...with you acting like one of the participants
So when its windy, i often do a 3 miles circuit round busy streets just off the centre of Peterborough. Staying in the confines of town to keep the worst of the wind at bay...and i love the business of traffic.
Swept round a L/H bend fairly full tilt, over TLs, two lanes, to be confronted by a car thats stopped in my lane to get into KFC, so i jinked into the outer lane, to be confronted by a car crossing over my lanes into KFC, and another car entering my lanes from KFC. The driver in front of me had stopped to allow everyone out and in...and i blundered straight into their paths
A quick skid, jinked in and out of them, and off, berating everyone round me under my breath, then realising...errr i could have waited.
Did i slow down ? ..err no.
17 miles round town, 16.4 average, not bad considering i had traffic, junctions and TLs to deal with. Oh, and a section for maybe 1/2 mile at 30mph on the flat, tailing a double decker bus...lovely.

No ride for me today despite it being a glorius day but after yesterday's ride, I've got a bit of a sore foot and ankle (my first ride in a month with cleats) and given today a miss. I anticipated that however and took it easy to make sure I finished the ride.

I went for a muddy hack around the local reservoir (Alton Water) which was full of pedestrians, but unlike other places I cycle the pedestrians full expect folk on bikes and are very cycle-aware.

My big achievement was being able to cycle to the reservoir, whip round then cycle home, that's been a fitness aim for a long time :becool:

By jebus those knobbly tyres SUCK at road running!

I rode the Great Manchester Cycle today. I did the 52 mile 4 lap option which was good fun. Hadn't done a closed road event before and was cool flying along the city centre motorway with no cars around. The area around Media City was a bit of a nightmare with two footbridges to navigate. On the first lap we had to stop and unclip it was so congested. The weather was great sunny:sun: no rain and the wind was not too strong. Got on to a good group and took my turn on the front a few times. Ended up 155th and 25th in my age group. Suprised myself with an average speed of 21.4mph despite the tehcnical slow bits, then rode back to Wilmslow with a visit from the fairy on the way.:cursing:

Went for a 22 mile ride around Shropshire with my Brother. We cycled 10 miles from Shrewsbury to Stapleton (via Lyth Hill) to see parents, complete with 2 stops to tighten the crank on my Brothers bike, which had come loose. At least he noticed this time, before it just dropped off, which happened on the last ride!! Think it may be in need of replacement. Some huge puddles to negotiate on Lyth Hill off road section, due to yesterday's rain. The sort that fill the whole road and as you cycle through you hope the middle isn't too deep . Came back on 12 mile route via Condover and Atcham, with no crank stops!! Perfect cycling weather, pleasantly warm but not too hot :sun:!

The weather sorted itself out by the late afternoon so I went out for a relaxing ride along one of my favourite routes. I love late spring / summer when you can go for a 45 mile ride in the evening and need neither lights nor extra layers.
