20 to 25 miles commuting today, what a glorious glorious day.
7.5 miles to work , hardly a breath of wind, hardly a car to be seen at 6.30am.
Watched the local windmills near work all day...they were stood stock still all day. Weather forcast said a westerly breeze this afternoon, it never materialised, the windmills were still...still this afternoon. Early finish so the chance to extend my home run a little was too good turn up.
Whichever direction i went in, no wind except the one i generated, 15mph with no effort and so warm i had no desire to push along.
Alongside the river (no idea what its called) is always so relaxing...

The countryside is littered with WW2 pillboxes, there's another one in the background if you look carefully enough (assuming you're bothered ). I stood looking in the river as i took this photo i could see three large barbel or chub, each about 2 ft long, just lazily mooching around. Countryside commuting in the summer is so so much more enjoyable than city riding (which i love anyway)
Back to the car...drive home...and the heavens opened . A typical summers day.

I've had the past week off work :sun: so a lot of the past week has been spent on the Boardman.

Monday was an evening 30 miler to get out of the house having spent the day cleaning the house, gardening, etc and Tuesday was the same run to build an appetite before a family meal.

Wednesday the plan was to pop over the river Deben to Bawdsey & back but I got to Woodbridge and turned inland instead and took the 'B' roads through Grundisburgh, Otley, and Hemmingstone then back towards Ipswich and home sticking to the back roads where possible (40ish miles)

Thursday was a 58 miler out to Aldeburgh and back through Woodbridge, Rendlesham and Snape with some country lane meandering between home & Woodbridge both ways.

As Friday was windy I only planned to to a repeat of the Monday & Tuesday route, but added 15 miles on to the end when I found the going easier than expected.

No riding on Saturday or Sunday - these were spent at Brands Hatch watching the Masters Historic racing in glorious sunshine on the Grand Prix circuit.

To cap the week off I completed my first single ride 100, albeit of the metric variety (105kim, 65miles). Using back roads where possible and with a lot of meandering it was out to Ipswich then Needham Market followed by Stowmarket, Stonham, Pettaugh, Coddenham, Ashbocking, Witnesham, back to Ipswich & home. There was no planned route when I set out, it was simply a case of going where the mood took me - I hadn't even thought of doing the 100km, the weather was just so good this afternoon I kept going.

It's back to work tomorrow and it's going to be difficult to turn right towards work when I get to the main road instead of turning left and heading inland for fun!

Another lunchtime ride of just short of 20 miles, now I've straightened it out after falling off when somebody overtook me then stopped last week, I swear road users have there eyes closed or just don't give a shoot about cyclists.... Any ways I digress 20 miles in glorious sunshine through the Kentish countryside

Two rides today, both on the same 14.5mile loop, started the first loop at 0600 and avg 17.2mph and then started the 2nd loop at 12.49pm and avg 18.2mph....
I always go out early at the weekends as roads are quieter (6-6.30am start) but I notice that during the week if I go out for a lunchtime cycle my performance is always better...perhaps I should have more coffee first thing!
Its just great getting up at 0545 and seeing bright blue sky and dry roads knowing that the perfect start to the day is with jumping on the bike ^_^

Today I have been chasing the olympic torch around Shropshire.

Shrewsbury was first on my list where I went down to the Welsh Bridge and was lucky enough to have chosen a "kiss" point (where they change between torch bearers). Then after that I cut through the Quarry park and went up to Old Potts Way and got ahead of the runners, where coincidently I managed to get by another change over point (not planned, honest).

I was really impressed by the turn out in Shrewsbury, it was really terrific (even if it made it hard to get a good view) - Salopians take a bow.

Leaving Salop I headed out on the A458 towards Much Wenlock. I was overtaken by the torch convoy just before Cross Houses (I waved at the camera van:blush: ) and as the traffic returned to normal after it had gone though I decided to head to Cressage via the back way through Cound Moor.

From Cressage I took the old turnpike road to Wenlock and set myself up by the William Brookes School where the procession was taking a break. The school was attempting to break the world record for the most changes in a 100 metre relay event, and (subject to confirmation of course) I understand they achieved this with 230 baton passes in 1 hour (previous record 191).

After seeing the torch leave Much Wenlock I headed towards Ironbridge. The quickest route there is on a cracking bit of road - steep and smooth and I didn't go below 21 mph for the next 3 miles.

The crowd in Ironbridge was as impressive as Shrewsbury's but packed into a much smaller space so to my disappointment I wasn't able to get a good vantage point where I could see the famous bridge clearly.

Once the torch had gone through I had to wend my way through the huge crowd to start the trip home via Buildwas, Cressage, Cound Moor, Acton Burnell, Pitchford, and Condover. The threatened rain held off while the torch went through but didn't for the trip home and I got pretty wet from Cound Moor onwards. It seemed quite refreshing towards the end of a long hot ride though so I shouldn't complain.

Total mileage for the day 50.52. Average speed 12.1 mph. Happy but tired now.:wahhey:

100 in one go. What you reckon? I'm sure you'll give some people a run for they're money on here.
