MrJamie

Oaf on a Bike
Id been meaning to tick off 50 miles for a while, as I often cycle 30-35miles, so set out yesterday with this in mind. About 15 miles in near woburn safari park, i had to stop and stand under a tree and look at the deer for 5 minutes to cool down. I was sweating on the flat despite keeping pace moderate but every time i got to an incline my temperature started rocketting and id get light headed and dizzy, but I was quite determined to keep going even if it meant having to stop in shadey spots and was regretting picking a hillier route.

I did manage to make it round and tick off the 50miles, 3:47 of cycling plus 30 minutes of stops - not fast but a nice target for next time. Had 800ml of water 700ml of high5, bag of jelly babies and stopped at 40 miles to buy another bottle of water and an icecream. The legs and bum feel alright today too, im sure on a cooler day it would have been much easier.

An unexpected and lovely 8mile spin with the Mister this morning. I conquered my nemesis hill and may have dropped Mr H in the last few yards to the top  I don't feel too bad though as he left me for dust on the offroad hill at the start of our ride. That ride took me to just over 100miles for the month, which is my best monthly total so far.

I've mostly been sticking to flatish routes but this last few times out I've been trying to give the hillier roads around here a go. 61 Km today + 559 metres of climb.

What was that route, Rob500 and is there anything like flatish routes in Northern Ireland ? I lived, worked and cycled around Northern Ireland some years ago. Northern Ireland is an gross underestimated bikerider destination. It should be a must-do destination.

Btw I did a 125 miles (was planned as a 150 miles ride) from Paisley over to Doune, Dunblane, Crieff, the Glen Quaick road with a sleep over in my new tent, Kenmore, Loch Tay southside, Crianlarich and down to Tarbet where the rear wheel had an emotional disintegration with train back to Paisley. A fantastic ride and most certainly a repeat in some years time.

Hi toroddf. I went Crumlin Road - Upper Hightown Road (1st&2nd Photos), into Templepatrick - through Dunadry (3rd photo Bridge over Six Mile Water), nipped under the stonebridge on to the Seven Mile Straight (4th photo), took a right on the Ballyutoag Road for a little loop into Dundrod and then via Carnaghliss Road back up to the Ballyutoag Road. Photos 5&6 are from the descent once I'd eventually made it over Ballyutoag.

125 miles? I'd need a lie down just thinking about that. ^_^
